It's the way almost everything is going FI. It's removing the choice and variety.

But making tuning for more power easier!

More in itself doesn't necessarily mean better. Just look at people who have driven previous generation M cars with less power than the latest M5/M6 but say they find the newer engines less exciting.

Not wishing to start a firestorm, but in my experience the M3 will get its power down much better than a C63. Yes the engine in the Mercedes is outstanding, but it is a one trick pony. I'm not sure I ever got the C63 to set off a line cleanly, at least not on a typical UK wet weather day.....

As cars to live with day to day the BMW is a much better car, (and the tech works, try getting the command online to work with iPhone)!
I agree the chassis & grip are excellent on the M3 & it gives the driver massive confidence but on the flip side it can be very predictable whereas on the other hand the C63 would be more exciting as its more of a challenge to drive.

The M3 would wipe the floor with my old Cerbera around tricky corners & the like but I would know for a fact the Cerbera would raise far bigger smiles as you would have to work really hard to keep it on the road...some like a car that's a challenge & some like a car that flatters the drivers ability...you go with the car that suits your requirements best but both cars bring plenty to the table.

I think it's hard to say what's best the C63 or E92 M3 as its all down to individual preference.

I think that's a fair point mate, it is about which one makes you smile. Now if you could fit the engine from the C63 in a well made car? Er, hello Aston Martin..........

I'd have thought that C63 would be a hairy, lairy animal of a thing to conquer as well, EVO disagree.

M3/C63 back to back conclusion, EVO:

"For point-to-point pace the M3 easily matches the Merc but, more than that, it feels special doing it – accurate, agile, finely balanced, biddable – where the Merc is merely accomplished. In short, the M3 is sharper, cuts deeper and will keep you hooked for longer."

Run a narrower square tyre setup like 245-section all round, and drive enthusiastically, every corner and round about will give you a smile biggrin.

This is my winter setup and it can slip and drift at will with a sharp throttle input and without needing to go beyond 4-5k rpm to get the rear tyres to break traction.

That sums up just about every test c63 vs m3 I've ever read.

That is interesting thanks, I haven't driven a C63 so can't comment but I have read that it is more of a handful & more lairy but maybe in reality it isn't then, I have always thought of the M3 as super sharp & the C63 a little rough around the edges but in a good way & more suited to what I like from a car.

I understand its a very well designed engine & offers reward if you can be bothered to rev its backside off but given the choice of the V8 4.8 from my old X5 4.8iS or the V8 from my E92 M3 I would prefer the V8 4.8 from my X5 under the bonnet of the M3.

I just don't understand the love you have for the S65 when the engine under the bonnet of your car has more in common with my old X5 & I found the engine in that far more rewarding for more of the time than the S65 was.
Interestingly enough the S65 makes the same power as the 4.8s max power at 6300rpm, peak torque is available only 500rpm sooner in 4.8s

Given the weight advantage of the e92 you'd only have to rev to say 5k to keep up with a maxed out 4.8s

I never expected the X5 to be any quicker but I just mean I just liked the engine far better in my X5 than I did in my M3 the V8 in the M3 doesn't even sound like a V8 for a start & it always felt like you were riding a nice wave of torque in the X5 whereas the M3 is just about high revs.

Technically I probably talk out my backside & I appreciate that but I got more personal reward from the 4.8 that is all but the M3 still has a great engine it just never really lit my fire.
