Previous posters have missed the point RE: RS2.
If Porsche Motorsport breathed on the RS4 now to make a run-out special edition, it would not look like this piece of cynical marketing.
The world has moved on but this RS4 is not a modern RS2.
This is undeniably a purely cosmetic attempt to tug at Audi fans' heart strings. If Porsche Motorsport breathed on the RS4 now to make a run-out special edition, it would not look like this piece of cynical marketing.

It just could have done it so much more effectively...
Now Audi have more than enough expertise, the RS models wouldn't require Porsche brakes for example as these sort of items are more generic now and the equipment fitted to S/RS Audis is largely similar to Porsche.
McSAM made a great post about the standards that we have become accustomed to and how if a new RS4 was to have the same impact that the RS2 did in the early 90s it would need to have 650+ HP
I agree these could be a few more styling links and the back lights and Cup 5 spokes would be excellent!

If Audi had some balls they would make a 4wd 1100kg estate with a 5 pot turbo and a manual... limited to 1000 units... they would lose money on every car and gain my respect again. Which they havent had for about 12 years.
I'm sure they'd consider that a worthwhile investing of $200 / $300m Or, perhaps, they could look at the opportunity cost of not earning your respect and investing that money I to some more trinkety DRLs and even harder suspension to shift another couple of million units to brand obsessed people.
I'm pretty sure the shareholders would have a fairly consistent view...
I think the issue is that it's utterly generic aside from the colour, with almost nothing special added (that would of course reduce profits) to actually make it a worthy homage.
A few of these is going to be a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of VAG profits, so why not at the very least produce a limited run of replica alloy wheels for this, or a different tailgate treatment that pays tribute to the RS2.

RS2 values have held up well, there were only a few rhd anyhow, lots smashed, crashed and nicked.
They are quite rare on the roads now but lots of the current Audi range, now just another mass producer or vw with a different badge but similar chassis platforms etc.
Love the noise of the 5 pot when it in the sweet spot.
As other people have mentioned, I think Nogaro Blue can be specced from the 'Audi Exclusive' range, along with blue Alcantara seat and interior inserts. Personally I like this combination, I have it on my S3 8L, but it does seem a bit of a cop out for a special edition to do this and no other tweaks, given the heritage they're nodding to.

Should have had the joined up rear lights as a minimum!Ideally a few Porsche parts thrown on for a nod towards the RS2 would have been nice.Ironically this is one of the few cars which has evolved FROM Turbo TO naturally aspirated!!!
they should have tweaked the TT-RS 5 pot for this. Leins said:
^^^ Just the man! How do you rate it compared to the M5 3.8? Leaving aside the fact there are fundamental differences between the two cars, but if it comes down to a choice of 90s WunderBarge for occasional use, which would you go for?
Phew, that puts me on the spot, done loads of miles in the RS2 and it is electrifying when pushing on, for a committed high speed driver it will hold its own with most but the top few. I like all wheel drive so i have to stay with the RS2, but the 3.8 engined M5 is another hooligan but delivers performance in a different manner, its more like an electric motor from the S38.
The unfair comparison from me is in owning them both and that makes it very hard to pick one from the other. It also gets confusing as the torque from the 4.2 xk engine also clouds the choice.
The benefit of old age is allowing confusion to cloud the issue of which key do I pick up today.
I accept these comments do nothing to clarify the question just show my good fortune.
^^^ Thanks for feedback!
Just interested as if I ever did pull the trigger on getting one my M5 would probably have to go to make room for it, although I suspect in hindsight I might regret the decision. As you say, the E34 is an absolute hooligan with that S38_B38, and it makes me do very bad things that feel very good

im pretty sure noggy blue can be spec'd on just about any car as an exclusive paint option, in the same way you can spec Avus Silver
You can spec any car from the current or past Audi range on any Audi through the Audi Exclusive programme, as well as specific Audi Exclusive colours. Here's an S5 Coupe in Nogaro Blue for sale:http://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/used-car-locator/a...
And an A7:

One of my local Audi dealers in Bolton often has demonstrators and showroom cars in Nogaro Blue and had an RS4 Avant in the colour last time I went a few weeks ago.

That would be the RS3 Sportback. There is less than 25bhp and 50kg of kerb weight separating the RS3 Sportback and the RS2 Avant. Footprint is very similar too.
