I drove a Ghibli V6 S last Thursday it must have come out of a different factory to yours - the ride was good enough to not loosen any body parts, when I pressed the throttle pedal it accelerated and the steering seemed to work as well ...

Quote is for 5k miles, £440 pcm plus VAT.
5K is useless for most normal human beings that actually work for a living. My daily commute is only 15mins each way and only do a little bit of running round at the weekend. Id double that without trying! who only does 15k in 3 years?

Ok, how about something different from the Maserati range then - would you or wouldn't you?

Appreciate that. Clearly just an exercise in getting the headline cost per month down.

You'd be spending a small fortune keeping it on the road unfortunately.

Old maser's is always a bad idea, although to look at different story...

Sadly to look at 1980's Maseratis were not a different story to look at.... pretty much as bad then as they are right now. Mashing up other manufactuer's ideas and dressing them them up with a good badge and a plenty of leather...back then the clock was a big deal too....They had a brief renaissance with the GT and previous generation Quattroporte, but they're managing to drop the ball again, and I can't see the SUV winning any beauty competitions either frown

As mentioned previousley, the QP was something that evolved over time into a complete car. It always was rather stiffer than it rivals. I expect the same will be said of the Ghibli. I also agree with the comments about it being rather fussy design wise. I had a good look over a bunch of pre-production cars in the summer, and was rather disappointed.

For more or less the same price as a Ghibli S, you could have this.

That is how a Maserati should look.

Well, I quite like it. I like Maserati in general, the basic Gran Turismo S being my favourite of the recent range...nicely understated, quite rare and with a lovely V8. The Quattroporte had mixed reviews to start with, they just aren't as rounded as your 5 series BMWs and XF Jags, but a hell of a lot more individual....

I'm a big Maserati fan but the Ghibli and new QP do nothing for me. they just appear as generic cars in their class with some quite contrived Maseratiness sprinkled on them

The only thing I like about this is its ability to avoid the "Billy Bignose" look of most modern cars in this sector. I don't see it being any less generic though. Take off the trident and it could be a Ford.

I just cant make myself like the looks of this car. Whilst it is (in my opinion) a much better looking car than the equivalent german offerings, I am still a little disappointed by it. My Dad had an original Ghibli SS Spyder... the name hasnt been done justice.

I drove the diesel Ghibli back in December 2013 after a long wait to have a go in one that started with seeing and sitting in the Ghibli at Goodwood FOS.

First impressions where two things noted in this review.

The steering wheel is too chunky and isn't helped by the lack of feel in the steering. The other thing that struck me straight away was how harsh the ride was, and guess what the Ghibli that I drove was on 20 inch wheel with tyres like elastic bands on the rims.

Maserati aren't doing themselves any favours sending in the demo cars with this wheel spec as it really is the first thing that you notice as you drive of an hit any imperfection, and lets face it there are loads of them, in the road.

As for the performance, I was underwhelmed by the experience in the diesel, but then stepping out of a V8 and into any diesel, I usually am.

My friendly Maserati dealer have been on to me since to try and get me out in the V6 s variant reviewed here but I just haven't had time yet. When I do, I will report back.

I really hope Dan has got this one wrong because all the other reviews I have seen like Harry Metcalf's they have said the opposite and I love the brand. Can't wait for the trip to Modena in September for the Centenary!
