I loved reading the article. Now, I wonder if the P1 did indeed beat the 918's time at the Ring, and I have a feeling that McLaren don't want to talk about it.
Of course it did. Steve Sutcliffe said the P1 is much faster, everywhere, than the 918.
To be honest, this is the bit I do not understand in all of this. McLaren are a commercial organisation that sell other products, do consultancy for god knows who and also do a bit of F1 smile. If you had just smashed the ring record it is completely counter intuative not to say it when it will obviously have a very positive effect on all your commercial operations and fan base.... makes no sense.

Chris - did you, at anytime during this test, perform any 'Man Maths' calculations??

Game, set and match!

Great stuff Mclaren, you make us very proud!

And with regards to the ring time baloney, perhaps there is a hint of the Marquis of Queensbury, the quintessential English gent and playing fair.

Not sure many people would be able to get that to work no matter how good their man maths worked!

This car is turning out to be everything I hoped the P1 to be, and more. The video cannot come soon enough.

I'd say more to do with not giving Ferrari a target lap time to 'beat' by whatever means necessary.

They have form and McLaren know it, there will be a video of the full lap somewhere, i'm sure it is spellbinding, but they aren't going to release it until Ferrari shows their hand.

I do worry that the stand off will never get broken though, why would they? both cars are sold out and the PR keeps on coming, we are still talking about it, aren't we!!!

I guess they are waiting for the LaFerrari to set a time before they publish their own. They don't want to give Ferrari something to aim at.

"This electric motor is the best fluffer you ever met."

Is that the right use of the word 'fluffer'? biggrin
Otherwise thanks for the review - entertaining and informative

Fabulous write up, really enjoyed that.

Loved the summing up at the end! I dont know why I just didnt expect it to be as acomplished overall as the 918 is.... but it sounds like its on another level again!

Thanks Chris.

Sold out?

Damn, well I guess I'll spend my money one something else rofl

I realyl like the merging of unadulterated turbo'd V8 with the green-pary friendly electric power, it's an excellent interpretation of the "hybrid" car that, for so long, has been a byword for "boring and slow and treehuggy"

Iw as wondering, how long could you travel at, say, 40 or 50 mph under electric power alone? is there a mode to just use the leccy motors? Say if you wanted to sneak out of the neibourhood at 4am on a summers sunday morning without waking up everyone

Awesome write up. Like everyone else I've been waiting to hear what Mr Harris thought of the P1. Glad to hear British engineering is still at the top!

Bring on the video!
