I just don't understand who buys cars like this.

Guys under 25 might want it, but surely could never insure it.

Guys over 25 could insure it, but most would be embarassed to be seen it.

Girls would sooner just buy the 1.2 petrol.
I agree. £22k is a LOT of money and can buy you serious fun.
It'd even buy you a mental-fast fun car (2nd hand) and a more sensible brand-new daily driver.

They are actually really cheap to insure, at 21, 3 years driving experience, 2 accidents declared and 1yrs ncb I can insure one for under £700.

But I do see your point, I'd still not have one. The amount of 'limited edition' 1.2's that have been churned out to young lads who instantly stick a cone air filter on and act as though it's a vxr is embarrassing.

It's no doubt a brilliant car but I'd have the Fiesta I think.
Touché - thats crazy cheap.

Where do you live?

And do you have a room to rent and another space on the drive??
NG34 postcode so quite a cheap area. Like others have said it's the asking price that would stop people in my age group buying them, the finance deals would have to be pretty impressive.

I think the best comparison for this with the suspension/lsd/power would be the Mini JCW GP, and that is even more expensive and I wasn't overly impressed with one of those from the passenger seat.

All the criticism of it on here seems to centre around it being a Vauxhall and an old design, and on a site for car and driving enthusiasts, I have to question that.

I have never driven the car or any of it's rivals, so I can only go by others opinions, but those who have driven it seem to be universally positive both about how it's engineered and how it drives.

To me this appears to be a no holds barred attempt by Vauxhall to create a proper exciting drivers car, and it seems to have worked.

That is something motoring enthusiasts should be celebrating, especially at a time when some of this car's rivals seem to have lost their way in their efforts to cost cut, and increase market share by being all things to all men.
And a million times this. We should be encouraging them, as well as all the other manufacturers, to create more driver's cars, not tat-covered, half-baked generoboxes. What happened to the screaming VTEC Hondas, the soulful NA straight six BMWs and the interesting VR6 VWs? At least Vauxhall had form with turbocharging before - the Insignia VXR sounds shockingly good - and they seem to be improving all the time.

The Clio, on the other hand, has gone from "best in class" to some boring stbox that has to play fake engine noises from the speakers to generate some interest. It's the biggest fall from grace since Lance Armstrong admitted he liked a little prick before donning his lycra.

£22k for a corsa .... seriously?

A basic one is £10k... has this really got £12k worth of add-ons on it?

Im sure its a great car - and drives well, but common sense says no.

The insurance might not be so much of a blocker but the asking price certainly is for that demographic. But, yes, agree.
Interesting. On the GT86 Carpool thread running alongside this one, someone involved in selling GT86s reminded us all that a lot of younger people who were living at home could afford a 25k GT86 as housing market was practically off the radar to them. I had wondered if the majority of GT86 new buyers were much older people.

Maybe the same applies to this Corsa. I could imagine there's quite a few younger buyers who might opt for a 20-25k hot hatch like this ( or a Megane or Fiesta/Focus ST ) rather than the GT86

Are you being serious? "Guys under 25 couldn't insure it"?

It's a 1.6 shopping trolley with a diff. Someone who has driven from the age of 17 and built up say 7 years NCB, living in a respectable area and no points etc would easily ensure this, and still be under your special "25" years of age cut-off point.

I don't think this is a car for you, best stick to the Alfa?

A basic C180 is?
A C63 Black is?

New cars are expensive. - We live in the world of the £30k Golf. eek Having said that, like pretty much all Vauxhalls, I doubt many are paying RRP - This brand new Nurburgring edition is £18,444.wink

A shame this is getting such a negative reaction, VX have done their best to make an ultimate driver's version of the Corsa VXR, the Nurburgring edition got good reviews when it came out, this seems to be a few more tweaks on top of that. The price is high for the age of the design, but as the rest of the competition has become more and more mardy looking, adding sound symposers, DSGs etc, this end of the line VXR is pleasingly simple, just a 1.6 turbo, diff and a good exhaust on it.

I actually wonder whether for the older gentleman the chav thing might be the thing to go for rather than the bloated GTI, BMW 6 cylinder entrance to the range ugly car, or Audi S line QRRS3 Sport.

You pile into that roundabout too fast in this thing, people shake their heads and when they see your silver sideburns, whilst you are doing black slide burns, suddenly change their tune and pip pip their horn in encouragement at an elderly gent reliving past glories in his mk 1 XR2.

I disagree. I think this Corsa generation is the best yet. The one before it was st and the one before that just after the Nova was atrocious. The pedals had a st position and the worst various of it to drive was the Corsa van 'combo' nasty trashy horrible vehicle that was all over the place.
Brakes, steering feel was very good imo.

I was gonna say how can they still be turning this model of corsa out for the last 8,000 years, learnt to drive in one it was truly dire.

Isn't it the only small hatch to yet be replaced too, still using the engines from the corsa C! Amazing how they keep churning them out and selling so well with the 1.2 limited edition that's not really a limited edition

The same chavs drive Audi S3, Golf GTI and BMW 130i ( I assume you mean M135i)

Who on earth would pay 22k for a corsa?? Audi S3, Golf GTI and BMW 130i with minimal mileage and only a few years old will cost that or less while being far better cars and not having to look like a chav driving them...

I am 31 years young and i own a Nurburgring. I dont quite fit the chavy image some are reporting.

I bought my Nurburgring Edition (NRE) before the car was even released. At that time i owned the standard VXR, it had a quaiffe diff, uprated suspension and stage 3 engine mods to 240bhp so I had an idea what i was getting. VX were saying this will be the hardcore version of their small hatch and with regulations getting tighter this would be the final wave of the corsa in its current guise.

VX were advertising (on a well known website) that only 500 would be made. They kept us pre release owners updated with a countdown to 500 which included the colors ordered. It became quickly evident that the 500 would be sold out before anyone had test driven them. Then it all went quiet.

I heard on the grapevine that OPC were going to continue to sell the car past 500, my arse twitched and i got in touch with people at VX that should be in the know. I was reassured that VX had no plans to continue production but if they did they would let me know, surely if they were going to build more VX would know, right?

Months later people were reporting that they had just ordered new NRE from factory orders and VX were still producing them. After many concerned owners asked, asked, and asked again VX finally confirmed that they would continue to sell.

This was my second brand new VXR from VX and to be completely honest i felt shattered by the news. I bought the car knowing it would depreciate however I bought it believing only 500 units would be produced and looking at the Corsa VXR Arctic (individual colour, remus exhaust and 500 units) which only dropped a third of its RRP over a 3 year period.

So here i am 26 months into ownership. Sadly 8 months ago i sustained a serious injury. i currently cannot walk, i haven't driven since and its possible i will never drive a manual car again. SO WHAT?

My Corsa NRE is sat in my garage collecting dust as its currently valued at 10-11k.

It would break my heart to take such a hit but with the release of the Clubsport its only going to get worse.

Signed

Gary Prout. An ex VX Enthuiast.

PS I'm not angry, I'm very disappointed.

I like it a lot, but I would find it hard to ignore the Fiesta ST at £16,995.

Gary I USED to be a vauxhall fan, but after buying an Astra vxr and then a vx220 turbo, they really pissed me off with their st dealers and useless customer service. I have owned over fifteen vauxhalls but I will never buy another .

So it's listed at £5k more than the Fiesta ST, but what do you get over it for that money?

~20bhp more power
Mechanical LSD
Brembo Brakes
Bilstein Suspension
Remus Exhaust System
Better Recaro seats (that unlike the basic design of the Fiesta ones, don't resemble those fitted as standard to the Astra/Vectra/Zafira/Meriva VXR models from years back...)

Seems to make the price a bit more justified IMO.

I'd snap one of these Clubsports up in no-time if circumstances currently allowed. The fact it now has that Grey as an option over say Red or awful Arden Blue makes it even more appealing to me.

PH should do a head-to-head, Mountune Fiesta ST vs Corsa VXR Clubsport. Monkey...are you listening?
