whats not to like? 200bhp, decent brakes, suspension, great handling and not too bad inside. 100,000 mile warranty for peace of mind too. it may not be a looker in everyones eyes but hey thats life.

I completely agree with this. I can't understand why anyone that could actually afford one, would actually want one. Obviously we're both completely wrong or Vauxhall wouldn't be building them in the first place.... but it just seems bonkers to me.
Me too, I think these halo models help sell the body kitted 1.2 'limited' editions. My Clio 200 cup is probably the last hot hatch I will have (never say never, I know) but I do think this Corsa appeals more than any of the other new small hot hatches available. As said some good kit on this car; brakes, diff, dampers, decent seats etc. These are the things that appeal in a hot hatch tick list. Certainly more than synthetic engine sounds, heated leather seats and best of all illuminated kick plates!
My two cents anyway for what its worth.

£22k for a corsa .... seriously?
A basic one is £10k... has this really got £12k worth of add-ons on it?
Im sure its a great car - and drives well, but common sense says no.
Performance cars are always going to be worse value than the standard models because the demand, and therefore the volume, is far less for a performance car but the developments costs are similar to other models. A basic one is £10k... has this really got £12k worth of add-ons on it?

Even car enthusiasts who like cars or enjoy driving most of the time just want a comfortable, quiet, cheap, reliable, nice feeling and looking car with supportive seats. A 'premium' badge is a bonus.
Some people like the image of a car or brand. I think whether that image is real or marketing is another debate.

The same chavs drive Audi S3, Golf GTI and BMW 130i ( I assume you mean M135i)
Exactly I know 3 S3 drivers .... 2 are drug dealers and one is just a massive chav who has financed it to deathromee2000 said:
Who on earth would pay 22k for a corsa?? Audi S3, Golf GTI and BMW 130i with minimal mileage and only a few years old will cost that or less while being far better cars and not having to look like a chav driving them...

I just can't get over the mental barrier of actually using £26k (including insurance) of my own money to drive around in a Corsa, sorry Old(er) and sensible(r) point of view that the youngsters will likely laugh at - but I'd rather have something from here - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/vauxh... .... a corsa between 4.5 - 5k.
And then stick the rest of the money away till I could get insurance / was old enough / wasn't likely to kill myself in a real fun car.

Lol, that's a big amount of money your making up there. Insurance is under £300 a year. I didn't pay RRP on it either.
I wouldn't have thought many of their target market would be able to get insurance for less than 2-3k? Isn't their target < 21 males, spending parents money and / or financing it to the hilt?Darren61 said:
Are you being serious? "Guys under 25 couldn't insure it"?
It's a 1.6 shopping trolley with a diff. Someone who has driven from the age of 17 and built up say 7 years NCB, living in a respectable area and no points etc would easily ensure this, and still be under your special "25" years of age cut-off point.
I don't think this is a car for you, best stick to the Alfa?
Geeze man, talk about taking it literally... I think others got the general point well enough without getting their knickers in a twist. It's a 1.6 shopping trolley with a diff. Thanks for the car advice by the way. I was seriously considering a VXR Corsa until you said that.

Vauxhall, the kings of flogging a dead horse.
The Corsa VXR was already an old bit of kit when it came out in early 2007, now some 7 years on they are still trying to sell it. The Clio RS has had three models in that time, The mini Cooper S has had 3 models too, the Golf GTi again has had 3 models, and many more new cars beside. It really seems to me That Vauxhall have literally £50 in the R&D pot and just can't be bothered.
also who really is going to shell out 22k on one of these now when you can either buy an early corsa VXR for 5 grand or if you want something for track a 1 year old Mini GP2 for 22k.
Vauxhall need a shake up
you cant compare the corsa with a VW golf GTI, golf is bigger, and way more expensive, even a golf GTD is nearly 28K new now with very few options. The golf should be compared to the Astra GTC VXR at which price and size are much more comparable. The Corsa VXR was already an old bit of kit when it came out in early 2007, now some 7 years on they are still trying to sell it. As for flogging a dead horse, Jag have done this with the XKR since 2006 and they are still selling run out models for 65K -does this make it a poor car? no.
Also an Audi A1 is over 20K and also the polo GTI which are both more comparable to the VXR corsa. As for the ford i can vouch for the build quality being far better on the corsas
Its horses for corsas!
In all nothing wrong with the VXR, and i suspect with new car discounts you'll get one for around 19K
Also try finding a similar spec cooper S works new for 22K? you cant...
I say fair play to vauxhall for making these cars still whilst many others are selling boring cars marketed on low Co2 and mpg....make the best of it while you can!

i've had my 'berg for 15 months now and:
1) it averaged 21mpg on a back lane commute over 12k miles on super unleaded

Averaged 21mpg in a small car? Is that a typo? I average over 27 MPG in a 3 litre Porsche designed in the 1970's for a similar commute ...
Not having a dig tps, but is it really that bad on fuel?
Oli.

22 grand could get you in a new GT86 on the net.
This looks like a MPV with them stupid quarter lights.
Plus it will break down because its a Vauxhall.
Well once upon a time I would have agreed with you about Vauxhall reliability having had the misfortune to own two of them, I said I would never buy another and I have not, but recently they do seem to have got their act together, has to be down to them being just re badged Opel's I imagine. This looks like a MPV with them stupid quarter lights.
