RE: Chris Harris video: F-Type Coupe
Discussion
Chris, this was truly a great video and one of the best ones you have done IMHO. Brilliant shots of [ahem] more sensible yet satisfyingly spirited (i.e. realistic) driving on road conditions as well as the impressions gleaned from the track on its dynamic abilities.
Great video, but I have read elsewhere that the F-type ride is quite firm, 'jiggly' and 'heaves uncomfortably off the bumps' are these impressions accurate?

Your best review in ages Chris, every aspect of the car gone through, steering feel, brakes, balance road and track. Brilliant truly brilliant. The template for car videos!
Really like the F type coupe looks and sounds great, I think from all I've read on the 991 and the F type, the jag would get my cash. Shame it wasn't lighter, but then it works so well on road so horses for courses.
Lets hope that Maserati concept gets made and throw another car into the 80k market! More the merrier!
I'm glad someone else appreciates its behind, thought it was just me and my rear arch fetish...

Hmmmm. I still can't get past it being 250 odd kgs heavier than a 911 S.
While I agree with the new 911 being a little poor (it's a boring car, no sense of occasion) you'll probably average half the fuel consumption of the f-type... Which is ridiculous.
I haven't seen a coupe, but I was surprised by the size of the convertible on the road - it looked big, and just a little cheap as a result. It didn't have any of the delicacy I thought it should have. Attractive in isolation I'm sure, but in traffic I just thought it was 10% bigger than it should have been.
And an automatic gearbox... Jesus. It loses that sense of occasion before you've left the car park.
But I like it.

That was such a good review that i'm compelled to disengage my lurking device and compliment all involved. Informative, entertaining and as others have said, one of the best for quite some time. Can we have some more please sir.
Have to agree on the bum thing too, it really is a masterpiece. Best back end since the Z4M coupe, though I might be biased on that.

Bottom is the correct word.
But the bottom of the elderly green 911 he's just co-bought has a pert posterior too.
Did Chris criticise the girth of the steering wheel in a previous F-Type test? He mentioned it in the Alfa 4C test. Have Jag changed the steering wheel for this model or is it same was when Chris may have previously mentioned it?
This Jag has conventional hydraulic PAS with a pump and fluid?
The Burgers to 911 wrap up at the end reminded me of flame grilled GT3s.
Which circuit was that?

The weight is neither here nor there if it doesn't fundamentally affect the way it performs, and looking at the reviews thus far, they suggest it performs brilliantly, and the last thing I would care about as a red blooded petrol-head is mpg figures (and focus on that extraordinary sound). The feelgood factor of this car is off the scale and really as an ownership proposition, this is a very important factor for me...the styling of the F-type soft top? I agree with you about this. I have seen quite a few in the flesh now and not entirely convinced by its looks, especially on smaller diameter wheels. It seems a little forced and slab sided, especially comparing it to say the Maserati Alfieri concept..While I agree with the new 911 being a little poor (it's a boring car, no sense of occasion) you'll probably average half the fuel consumption of the f-type... Which is ridiculous.

The autobox seems pretty impressive though, I didn't detect much of the torque converter in the eight speed - ZF seems to have pretty much eliminated the effect it has on the up shifts.
Overall then, I'd take this over a 911 anyday...
Thank god for that. Road rather than street.
And whilst it's an attractive car I'm really not seeing the great beauty that others are. The front and the rear look like they were designed completely independent of each other, I don't like the silver window surrounds (and the C pillar has too much of a one-77 shape to it for me) and it looks a bit short overall in some angles.
