They put Harry metcalfe in charge of creating the gt3 F type equivalent, I doubt they will beat the 991 GT3 but at least there will be a choice from now on! Come on Harry, hurry up and show us your baby. How much more are those? Oh yeah.
I really like these. The drop top was nice, but the coupe looks gorgeous and even better in the flesh. The big thing for me is the noise. It adds an element of drama and theatre that think the 911 doesn't have. Sure the 911 sounds good and the 991's I've seen about are quite rorty, but the Jag takes it to another level. Even the V6 ones are pretty loud.
I'm not in a position to buy I e but the two reservations that I'd have are the ride and depreciation. The ride of the drop dop was criticised for being too hard and jiggly and if this is 80% stiffer it could be hard work on UK roads.
On the subject of the old 6 speed ZF, I find it good for pootling around and all out in sports mode but it does seem to struggle a bit when transitioning between the two, that's when I notice the lag.

Er yes 911s used to be extremely well built. A well-maintained 80s 911 is noticeably better built than most modern cars, including any modern Porsche. It all went to pot when they switched from air-cooled in the 90s though. In the 70s and 80s and even early 90s, they were on a different planet in terms of integrity of construction compared to eg Italian or British sports cars. But the rot set in with the 996 model 911 which had a repellant interior & was only mass-market quality and the first version of the 997 had a few engine problems, though the later 997s were OK. The new 991 model 911 is fine, just too bling, too fast and too boring with no proper steering feel any more. It is designed to people who traditionally would have turned up their noses at 911s; but that's VW for you. Mind you, if you're considering a modern Jag, lack of steering feel won't bother you much anyway. This new Jag does look very good - not as sharp as an E-type obviously, but not bad considering the red-tape stylists have to endure nowadays.

Er no. The structure is 80% stiffer not the ride. I think he said the dampers are 4% stiffer than the convertible.Court_S said:

I'm not sure what jiggly means but the car is absolutely planted, much moreso than my old ('13) XKR Coupe. The driver feels absolutely confident, there is no nervousnesss in the feel of the car at all. The ride is firm, as you would expect from a sports car, but not hard. Certainly less firm in feel than any of my TVR's, which is as I would expect.Depreciation is a state of mind.
