I think we’re probably just witnessing the learning process that McLaren is going through when it comes to dealing with auto journalists.
With the 12C they found out that regardless of what their empirical measurements said, because it wouldn’t drift easily journalistic groupthink set in and proclaimed that it was a very good car subjectively not quite as good as a 458.
What McLaren have done now is use the old trick of telling the journos that virtually everything on the car has been “tweaked”. Since motoring journalists love nothing more than demonstrating their incredible perceptive skills by claiming that they can tell the difference between a 19mm diameter anti-roll bar and a 20mm one, the 650S press-pack was catnip to them. They can now drive the car and happily pronounce that it’s a “revelation” compared to the 12C even though the quantitative differences are probably negligible...

As I work in the Woking area I have seens lots (30+) 12C's (and a few P1's too) and do like the subtlety, but I have just seen my first 650c on the M3 earlier today in a graphite grey colour, and the front end does work so much better in the flesh than in pictures. It did look much more purposeful. I like it.

probably will never drive one so can't comment on the involvement side of things, but its amazing how this car is only 1 second off the p1 0-100 time, and 1.5 seconds off 0-120 ,the p15 is going to be something else.makes you wonder how much faster supercars will get.
I agree, the performance figures of these Mclarens are scary. It will be interesting if Ferrari,Porsche and Lamborghini join this performance race or just make louder more aesthetically pleasing cars. The Huracan for example is nowhere near the pace of this car.Kronstein said:
Bloody hell, can't get a much more glowing review than that.Cant say I've seen or heard a 12c or 650s other than on t'internet...
but from that video... does anyone else think it sounds just a bit... well... st?
It's really really quiet, inside the cabin you can hear the click of the paddle shifts over the exhaust. Sounds a bit like a bike half a mile away.
Maybe it's just the audio on that video. I'd better go and track one down to hear properly!

On the contrary, I think calling a car " La Ferrari" is probably the most random , idiotic decision in naming a car in automotive history.
Pay more attention. The La Ferrari is an F70. That's the model designation. Like an Enzo was an F60 and then you know about the F40 and F50. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
