So the wife and I took a train trip to London to look at and hopefully buy a lovely green Volvo V70. After traipsing through the p**sing down rain to the garage, we're informed he sold it 10 mins previously despite me telling him I was en route to him.
The flipside was he probably told the buyer of it that he had someone else coming to buy it in half an hour - people on PH always think that's a lie when dealers and traders say that. It isn't always and leads to exactly the situation you describe. NastyNick74 said:
However, he did have a dark blue V70. We took it to for a drink before and had a look round it. He wanted a bag of sand but managed to get him down to 700 notes. Heated cow, cruise, climate AND sunroof. Loving it so far after a 130 mile drive back to Lincolnshire.
...which is also exactly why you didn't get called en route and told th ecar you were appointed to see had been sold. You still bought *something* from him. Canny trader. But what do I know eh?
A bird in the hand is definitely worth more than one in the bush.
What is it with people these days? Got to the Lake District tomorrow and my mate wants me to drive but has requested I don't drive too quickly as going very quickly (eg 90) is very dangerous.... I said if the road is clear and the roads are dry what's the harm.... This person did 55 in a 30 yesterday....
He also said it's cheaper on fuel. If I wanted to save on fuel I wouldn't have got a V8.... I don't want to go in their 1.3l diesel astra but likewise don't want to be told how to drive my car.

Weren't you fined for speeding recently?
My point was more about someone telling me how to drive rather than the speed itself. And yes I was. On a totally clear section of road with good visibility on a Sunday morning with clear blue skies. I wouldn't have been done for 70mph in the pouring rain with poor visibility.... Such is the logic of our system I guess! E65Ross said:

Tried to view that 500SEL but they gave me the impression it was pretty much sold, annoying. That was about 6 weeks ago.
Good news on the E55 cat, the noise is ace isn't it. If I stick to 70 and cruise on my commute i'm getting 26 mpg. Really impressed so far! Although its going in for the service next Tuesday. £975.. and that's before they find anything! Had a problem with the alarm too, interior sensor setting the bloody thing off!
I quite like these CLK55 AMG's I think in part to the rarity factor, I just dont see many of them on the road. There was a small feature (readers cars style) in this months Mercedes Enthusiast magazine.Good news on the E55 cat, the noise is ace isn't it. I wonder how many came to the UK originally? How Many Left only shows 384 left on the road and 41 SORN.

The Pistonheads data says that SEC560 can do 156mph... disturbing!
My friends dad ran two brand new 560 sec's in the early nineties, and I can vouch that they indeed will do over 150 mph, in comfort I might add. Handled like a boat however, but flashier car in 1990 was hard to come by, and they still look awesome.E65Ross said:

Interesting, so far as I've ever been aware, all of that listed, plus double glazing was standard fare for V12 E38s from launch, maybe a UK/EU difference in spec. Windows look like they have the thicker banding around the edges in that pic.
Lovely colour and spec with the 32s, all the same.

While on the subject of e38. I can honestly say that I will have a very hard time parting from mine should that time come...
Such handsome cars. The consummate large saloon, I'd say. I've been in the 140 again and it just leaves me feeling seasick. Whereas my recollection of the E38 728i is very positive.Zwolf said:

30mpg.... What speed were you sat at?! 50? Lol
Nope. At 56-62 mph cruise she returns 34.2-33.8 hovering around 1,500rpm. 30 is from more typical motorway cruising speeds at ~2k rpm. It drops to 24 and quickly thereafter once you exceed 2,600rpm in top...
I must experience another V12 one day
