I doubt it's perfect but this looks good in black, de-chromed, SWB with genuine Alpina wheels.

Isn't there a way of finding out what options are fitted to a BMW using the vin?
Google "BMW VIN decoder", there's loads.

http://bmwvin.com/

Etc.

Used to be as simple as phone your local dealer and they'd tell you, ditto the history. Until they worked out they could use a premium rate number.

You still can if you have a good relationship with your dealer/parts manager.
I really should have googled it shouldn't I?

The wife is going to freak when she realises that the E91 isn't the prestige load lugger she dreamed of. Unfortunately for her driving dynamics came before luggage capacity this time!

Doesn't look too bad to me, although the seller does not have the strongest command of the English language!
I love the classic British design of having a dash of wood with the dials set in it. Looks fantastic.

A little outside thread budget and I'm sure this will be a marmite car but it does look decent:

That was for sale for half the price around 12-18 months ago somewhere in the North East. In fact I think it was owned by an occasional contributor to this thread. I know cars are more expensive in Scotland...

Would much rather have this one below if I was inclined to spend a few quid on a six pot W126. Anyone have further info to share?

Lovely interior but the mint ice cream look on the outside isn't nice.

That's one of the two that I've missed out on. Looked lovely, though the cream leather was a bit pimp.
That's similar to mine - E91 Lemans, no leather - alcantara/cloth, which I prefer, pana roof and autobox. Sport ride is appalling on runflats - hard, tramlines, nervous - and that's after geo was done, but I have Falkens waiting to go on which should improve things. Pre 2007ish is the old N52 engine (later N53 eco high pressure jobbie eats fuel pumps afaik) - N52 is lovveeeelly, a proper petrol engine. Not sure post '56 plates are much more to tax on these either.
Sell it to me!
That interior is gorgeous. Completely lifts an otherwise dull interior!

Good info. Maybe more can be learned in due course... The price is ambitious but ironically the oddity aspect of the 2.6 motor may appeal to some. Not sure about the exterior colour combination myself but the interior is lovely.

The 300SE you linked is a superb looking example and the ad gives some confidence at that price point. If only the interior was leather.

W126 SEC are mighty handsome but am I alone in preferring the looks of the 'humble' 4dr?

It's the egregious polyp that is the door handle. Using that would discombobulate me every single time.

Everything else is lovely.

Don't forget to go for a good drive in a 126 before you commit, if you're planning on using it as a daily because as I said to DSL the other day, nostalgic is the best way to describe the driving experience.

How fresh was the general suspension on yours?

Old cars are so often judged on the basis of 25 year old parts and bushes. The difference a set of new shocks, top mounts, ball joints and arb bushes have made on past 124's and 201's was massive (I know the 126 has a much more basic rear set up). I expect the same with my E39 when I get around to it.

Which is best, E24 or C126?

I have a strong hankering to try one or the other one day. Today I think the a 635CSi is winning, but some days the SEC has it. All idle daydreaming I'm afraid because our 107 is staying put for sentimental reasons and we don't have the space for another car we can't fit all 3 sons in. I wonder if in 15 years time or so I'll be thinking to myself - I could have had one of those... scratchchin

Yes the lack of leather was a bit of a turn off; however the advert doesn't mention that the car has air-con. So on a baking hot summer's day, leather seats are the last thing that you want.

It had new road springs all round, not sure about the other parts. I was really referring to the general creaks and groans that you heard from the cabin, which seem to be the norm even on well cared for examples. The performance is also very pedestrian, unless you really provoke it, which is quite cruel and unrewarding. Not a fair comparison I know, but my A8 feels like a rocket, compared to the 500 SE. This is in spite of the 500 still romping its way up to an indicated 140 with no problems whatsoever. The game has just moved on and when we look back at these lovely old cars with rose tinted spectacles, it's easy to forget that.

I keep coming back to this.

So I googled the registration mark. And found this: http://www.ukvehicle.com/J331OPK/ This is a new site to me but isn't that interesting: not much of a margin in it but a turn all the same. Why do I find this off putting?

Edit: here's the original ad from June 2014 http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C510908

Tax to July 2015?

I thought it was no longer transferable after Oct 1?
<dreams shattered>
I really thought that was one of those one retired castle-dwelling owner cars where the chauffeur has done most of the miles irked
Right, I'll try again then wink

Was at Silverstone Auctions yesterday to see the below C126 560SEC make over £32,000

Nice car, heading quickly out of budget though.

I bought lots 117 and 130 if anyone was interested. smile

For those of us without the benefit of a catalogue, and a dose of can't-be-arsed-itis to search, do spill the beans...

Oh, and congrats!
