Dude the ignorance on this site gets worse by the day. Don't feel the need to even discuss these types of moronic comments. Hiring a bog standard Mustang and reviewing against 'The Europeans' is like hiring a bog standard Focus and doing the same against a Mustang GT. A majority of brits have no clue about the US market and hence come out with ste like the above.
You cant compare the cost of buying a mustang in USa with the cost of buying a european car in USA. USA has both made in america taxes and heavy import taxes, plus labour, energy and material costs make manufacturing in the USA far cheaper than in say Germany and as a result the cost of US cars are disproportionately lower than if compared either with car pricing here or vs european cars in the USA. I take it your defense of mustangs comes with your experience owning or driving them? or are u just taking what you see on the spec sheet and defending it because in your mind it represents such good value for money?
The interior, handling, fuel consumption, gearbox and build quality cant be disputed.......
So what would u have a 3ltr mustang compared to, what does ford think their car is.....a 2 door runabout, family car? No the mustang is supposed to be a performance coupe with 300 bhp

What heavy import taxes are you referring to? If you think manufacturers are exposed to the same tariffs and duty rates that Joe Public paying full MSRP is you're very much mistaken, and multinational business of that scale tend to know a thing or two about tax efficiency.
The fact remains that while it'd be foolish to proclaim the Mustang as a paradigm of build quality and sophistication, your experience is based on a thousand miles in a base model rental car you cheaped out on. I'm not sure Ford is to blame for your poor experience.
Don't expect the Ritz when you're paying for the Econolodge.

It is exactly this sort of thing that makes Ford a better brand than Vauxhall.
Whoa...I've just had a '90s flashback. It's Ford vs Vauxhall BTCC cars in the playground again! y2blade said:
I know that's a bit like saying Brown Dog-eggs are better than white ones but there you go.
To be fair, both have made some great cars.Just one thing though: Which brand currently gives us a RWD muscle car / saloon with a Corvette engine?

Ask the guys on here that rebadge their Vauxhalls that question.
Joking aside, there have been some pretty good Vauxhalls over the years and I do think they get more than their fair share of abuse & ridicule. Yes; they make dull boxes for the masses but then even BMW are about to launch a FWD MPV. Ford, on the other hand, get plenty of recognition from petrol heads (rightly so IMO) despite also making some absolute "dog eggs".

Like for like cars of each type from each brand Ford were always the better handling of the two while Vauxhall generally made the better/quicker engine.

There are exceptions (we had one of the first Sierras with the "automatic lane change" feature ( ) and a 2000 Mondeo that was utterly terrible) but generally I'd agree with that.Like for like cars of each type from each brand Ford were always the better handling of the two while Vauxhall generally made the better/quicker engine
Vauxhall have made a lot more effort with regards to handling in recent years. I remember reading an article in Car Magazine when the current Astra was launched in which they said it was as good as the Golf...also see the recent piece on here re. the Corsa Clubsport.
The handling of our old company KA van was the only good thing about it though.

That's my experience too. Vauxhalls seem to be better on fuel too, but I find the engines more problematic if you compare the Ecotec to the Zetec engines.Like for like cars of each type from each brand Ford were always the better handling of the two while Vauxhall generally made the better/quicker engine.
