Do you mean the turbo V8? If so, there's no way that'd fit, and it'd cause major cooling problems even if it did. 370bhp is more than plenty anyway. And who cares about "Vmax" in a car with no windscreen?
If you mean the 5.0 V8 from the E39 M5, it's not made any more, and given how tight a fit the 4.4/4.8 is in there (with its single intake set-up) I don't think the 5.0 V8 would fit. Also it'd be much more costly and would only make c.30bhp more.
BMW make engines that they have discontinued for Morga. There were crates of new but old type M5 engines at the Morgan factory when we went round 2 weeks ago - See the sunday service thread for picsIf you mean the 5.0 V8 from the E39 M5, it's not made any more, and given how tight a fit the 4.4/4.8 is in there (with its single intake set-up) I don't think the 5.0 V8 would fit. Nope Porsche don't fit that and the more powerful engine Porsches have a higher top speed. I assume that's the point where the power of the engine is matched by wind resistance & the 155 number is just a coincidence.
I sit corrected. I'm not too heavy. I reckon I could get it past 155 downhill with a following wind. Jawaman said:
Side exits just don't suit the car.
Agreed. They're a misplaced caricature feature. I was looking at eBay for a Audi C4 S4/S6 last week. They didn't have any so list all the parts for them. About fifth on the list was some stick on plastic vent with a slash bisecting it. At the head of the list for cars for sale was some black Audi Q7 with that actual plastic stuck on vent on the front wings. Shocking.

V8 and RWD would be perfect for ice racing.
Studded tires would suit those steelies to a T.
Add electrically heated gloves and you're sorted!
My biggest problems is that it would cost 2 or 3 times as much as in britain. And i am poor sob, i can only afford crapstastic Supra... Driving without windscreen in finland would be like this: in summer every insect flies your face (we have a lot of those bds) and in winter your face would froze (we have like -30 celsius). Morgan would still be worth it!Studded tires would suit those steelies to a T.

Thanks, every day's a school day! Will check it out. The Morgan GT3 race cars had the M5 engines though.

That's not true. They are the 4.8 V8 as per the 650i/550i engines not M5 engine. The M5 engine swap has been bandied around by many people but I don't believe anyone has ever fitted one successfully. It would also have been a lot more expensive.
The Morgan GT3 race cars had the M5 engines though.
Thanks - I'd certainly never heard of an M5 V8 being put in, and the pics on the Sunday Service thread don't look like M5 V8s to me. The Morgan GT3 race cars had the M5 engines though.
PS - I love the look of the Speedster - perfect sunny day car, with a few trackdays thrown in.

My Fury has an aero windscreen, I drove 1800 miles in 4 days to Le Mans and back, great fun. No goggles or helmet, just a hat and some glasses. A little windy and you get wet if it rains. You hear, feel and smell everything!
This (like all Morgans) is an event to look at and even more to drive, I think it looks so much better with an aero screen.
Love it!!!
That looks great. Fisher/Sylva cars have long been among the best looking of their ilk IMO.This (like all Morgans) is an event to look at and even more to drive, I think it looks so much better with an aero screen.

I don't know a lot about much but i know my Aero ' s
As far as I'm aware BMW never made a V8 4.4 or 4.8 M5 other than the current F12 model (4.4) which is a twin turbo and very different to the Morgan engines.
The Morgan engines are currently 4.8 N62 engines (as per E63/4 650i, E60 550i and E70 X5 5.0i) the previous model Aero cars (series 2 & 3) had the 4.4 M62 (as per the E39 545i and the E63/4 645i).
The E39 M5 used the S62 5 litre engine (sometimes referred to as 4.9).
It is true however that the engines are produced specifically for Morgan though the changes are simple and mainly to wiring loom and ECU I understand as not all systems are utilised in the Morgans.
Hope that helps and shows Vpr his faith was not misplaced

"Every week, at the end of the line, roughly 14 new cars are produced: ten ‘little ones’ (4/4s, +4s, Roadsters and 4Seaters), three Aero 8s and one Aeromax. It seems incredible by volume car-making standards that so much activity, and such a diversity of it, can go into the making of so few cars – but that’s the marvel that is Morgan."

I'll have an Aeromax if they've started making them again.vpr said:
