What happened at 0:37 - was that it bouncing off the limiter?
ETA and 1:41. Who is that driving????
Yours truly, demonstrating the lag I mentioned in the upshift and what happens if you don't pre-empt the redline and pull the paddle before rev counter passes 8K! ETA and 1:41. Who is that driving????
In Strada and Sport it had been up shifting even in manual. Not in Corsa tho...
Cheers,
Dan
Very noble of you to make yourself look like a crap driver just to demonstrate a flaw in the car; You truly are a dedicated reporter!
Righto, without wishing to sound overly defensive and being as it (seems) to be a topic for discussion here's the view from the driver's seat on why I kept banging into the rev limiter.
Peak hp is at 8,250rpm and when you're chasing a bloke in an Aventador you need every last one of them! It was pretty cool because you'd get just a puff of black smoke when he got on the throttle meaning you had to do likewise pretty damned quickly to keep tabs!
As per the article I started in Auto then switched to Manual, first in Strada, then Sport mode. I was surprised to find that just at the point where I was about to pull the upshift paddle the gearbox would pre-empt me and do so automatically, suggesting either some lag in the gearshift or, perhaps, in the 'rev counter' on the TFT display. There are no shift-up lights either.
In Corsa - as you'll have seen - it will run into the limiter if you don't shift up in time. As you'll see from the pic below the actual redline on the display is at 8.5K but if you didn't pull the upshift paddle by the time the 'needle' reached 8 the shift wouldn't go through in time to avoid the limiter, giving a 'lag' of around 500rpm, halfway through which your full stable of 610hp lurks.
So, it's either a time delay in the shift responding to the paddle input. Or perhaps some sort of delay in what the TFT rev counter shows and the actual engine rpm.
Or just rubbish driving!
Cheers,
Dan

Love the looks
But overall i feel Dan was being very polite, as i feel this car is lagging behind its direct rivals.
Considering it has just been launched that doesnt bode well for the future
I imagine at somepoint they will have to accept defeat and go down the downsized turbo charged route. At that point with the steering resolved i imagine it will be a great package.
Although i acccept that the sound of the current engine is superb

The reviews for the Aventador were not exactly glowing when it first came out, hasn't stopped them selling loads of them. A Lambo customer is very different in profile to a McLaren one that's for sure, so how it drives at the limit or on a track will not worry many. It looks suitably striking and that's all that will matter for most.

Also 1:23 or just after. ETA and 1:41. Who is that driving????
He also seemed to be hanging on to the top of the wheel for dear life at some points... not a relaxed driving posture at all.

Why would you go food shopping in one? I find the 'boot' in the R8 (same sort of size) is actually quite good because it's deep and not so wide, so 3 Trader Joe bags for life fit perfectly and don't rattle about
I am sure that the fifteen iterations that follow will fix some of this stuff, including (hopefully) the insufficient brakes.
I also think that the dual clutch boxes have gotten so good that most people probably don't even bother with paddle upshifts on the track. Good technologically, but sad for those of us who still prefer manuals.
It is a shame they didn't let you try the non-dynamic steering.
