I don't think the person driving the pictured car did die, but did hit a wall at high speed (stuck throttle / brake throttle confusion). There have been a few Atom deaths but many more have walked away.
I cannot find any evidence to support that the driver died in that particular crash, other than the information provided by 'TheLastPost' in the Pistonheads article I linked to, so I stand corrected.

The driver posted on the Atom forum after that crash so am certain he did not die. Suspect it hurt a bit mind you wink

Why not include VAT in retail prices? Saying they start at £XX + VAT makes it look like you're a plumbing trade counter instead of a car manufacturer.

If I had a £ for everytime someone has said exactly that to the factory I would have enough for the VAT on a new car.

On an unrelated note I still find it amazing that the new 650s Mclaren is quicker to 100 than what is basically a kart for the road...

I'm guessing it's for international sales?

I always thought these looked really expensive for what they are... but when you consider the performance they aren't too bad!

My understanding is that they have issues getting heat into the front tyres and have a tendency to under-steer till they do, which is why you don't tend to see them competing. As someone who drives a car with no roof or screen with 400BHP and weighs 600Kg I have a rough idea how bonkers the Atom 3.5R would be.

I'm also pretty sure a caterham would suffer similar damage if you stuff it into a wall.

Ballistic figures for a road car.

they understeer quite badly but also suffer from the rear pushing the front on. Also it is so light you can't get the power down in less than ideal situations. Lesser cars can beat them on fast road driving.

I am lucky enough to have drive a supercharged Atom on track and can confirm they are absolutely bonkers.
The only car I have driven that I can directly compare to a sports bike. This includes LP670SV although I've never been in a 135i or a remapped 335d

Makes me miss mine now frown

If only used for the road the 245bhp base model is more than enough. Had a passenger ride in a 300 and the driver just span up the rears in first 3 gears . Also prefer noise of NA vs supercharger.

But I would love the paddles after experiencing them at Palmer day. The way you can change up mid corner without upsetting the car is great.

Price makes an early series 3 Atom seem a bargain.

If anyone is sitting on e fence re an Atom, just do it !!!

Atom could make so many amazing skinned version of that car as well. Like this:

Better to let someone else do it perhaps. With so many F1 teams and car designers in the UK seems like a good idea to try.
Agree fully. I found the Atom a little ungainly from the rear. If they could make a body like in your link, from fibreglass at a reasonable price, I would have one again !

Easily remedied by lifting off and reapplying the accelerator. But this does produce oversteer, which is preferable.

Not too far of the V8's 5.4 seconds to 100MPH then. Probably no different on normal driving roads bearing in mind the low tyre temp and grip levels. Looks like a good deal when you do compare it to the V8! But then again it's not a V8...

I've always liked Atoms, I reckon the best one would probably be the Mugen version they did a few years ago, because that Honda engine would just be great in one of these things. That said, since getting a bike I find this sort of fare less appealing, because as mental as it is, it's still not going to give you the hit that a bike does. I wouldn't say no to a go in one, but I wouldn't bother having one in my dream garage, I'd sooner occupy the slot with something ludicrously fast but with a roof, like a Gumpert Apollo or a Ferrari F12.

You might find that sitting so close to the road, with no need for a helmet, induction noise roaring in your left ear , might make you think again vs a bike. This coming from someone who's had gsxr's and a zx9R. Try it........ You might be converted wink
