RE: Civic Type R seen undisguised
Discussion
Amazing.
There was a recent thread where many chastised the recently ended Subaru STI (hatch and saloon) for being ugly and now Honda come up with this. As an STI owner, I am insulted by how hideous that Civic is. I hope, for Honda's sake and for the sake of my eyesight that it's not production ready and that in fact, they will be reversing it back through Halfords to remove some of that gaudy bodykit and spoiler before launching it.
If that gets approved by Honda's board for production it will be up there with the idiot small Vauxhall Adam in marketing mistakes. And somebody is actually being paid to make these.
Amazing.

One exhaust per cylinder, quite amazing. Seriously, exhausts on cars are just getting plain silly these days - about as silly as this car looks, really.
I see that posted a far bit on PH, but I don't think cylinder count has much to do with it. Too make a given amount of power, an engine has to pump in a certain amount of air; the combustion process means it has to expel a certain amount of exhaust gases. Increase the power, increase the exhaust gases. Certainly in the case of exhaust headers, there needs to be a suitable diameter (or cross-sectional area) to get rid the generated amount of gas.Wouldn't turbo engines benefit from a greater volume of exhaust after the turbo, to increase pressure differentials before and after the turbine? Is there not an increase in response, boost, or a bit of both? Any techs or engineers able to confirm or deny?

Why isn't everyone complaining about the fact it's FWD?
Don't know if that's sarcasm or not but complaining about a hot hatch based on a car that is already FWD and the fact that most hot hatches are (and traditionally have been) FWD would be silly. If they are FWD they should be 4wd.
If they are 4wd it's the wrong sort of 4wd.
And in both cases they should be RWD.
Oh, and they weigh far too much.
I was wondering if this was some kind of manufacturing bias: if Honda do it, it's OK?

Yep, they are running the estate version in BTCC: http://www.honda.co.uk/racing/btcc/
And hatch in WTCC: http://world.honda.com/WTCC/
They've been pretty damn good with touring cars the past few years, but without a road car to go with it until they finally get this new CTR released, lol.
So I see (having had a quick scoot around for info), I stand corrected. And hatch in WTCC: http://world.honda.com/WTCC/

It just seems they haven't shouted about it, as you suggest, probably because they haven't had a road car to go with it.
However, I still maintain, this is going to be a tough sell.

Ha - it's hideous.
It looks like a go-faster Prius. Except that, if it were a Prius underneath it would probably be a bit cooler.
'Subtle' was the key.
Just what I had in mind when I was looking at this newer monstrosity. It looks like a go-faster Prius. Except that, if it were a Prius underneath it would probably be a bit cooler.

Whatever happened to the art of understated car design...
Well lets face it, all those subtle Civics of years gone by end up with a dustbin exhaust and suspension lowered by 40cm rather than mm.... so at least it will save them the trouble.
Honda will have to make a car that is totally stonking to drive to make it's britches match it's mouth though. Let's hope so.
Perhaps they just got carried away after modelling the Jazz for all those years.
Actually I'd like to see a 300bhp Jazz with lots of body kit. The Silver Racer crowd has never been properly catered for.

The rear wheels look neither large enough or have the correct offset to look good against those rear arches, they look a little apologetic, tbh. Especially with how overtly aggressive the rest of the car is.
The accountants have clearly got their miserly little talons into it and for the sake of about £50/car, completely disjointed the styling, well done lads!!!!!!!

It's hard to judge from a photo of a matte black car. The kit is clearly motorsport inspired, which I think is a good thing.
I do find it strange that here on PH, when a new Audi/VW/German car breaks cover, people accuse it of being "bland" or other such vague, non quantifiable styling judgments. Then Honda come along with this, and all of a sudden it's too "fussy" or "halfords".
