Wonder if it's to keep the 0-60 over 5 seconds?

Probably a fair point. Porsche is very careful to keep these cars out of the 4s in manual guise to help sell PDK.

It's a great car. Obviously faster than a Golf R, as though that even matters. People say such stupid things. 'My 335d is faster'. Great. Go drive that diesel barge, then. A Golf R might feel faster because it is less balanced, has less grip and is struggling to put its power down without electronics.

Well, given that they can do 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds I don't think so.

The gearing in the 981 manual is the same as the 987, but because it revs higher (7800 vs 7300) and the wheels have a larger rolling circumference (19s with 40 profile standard or 20" option) the speeds are quite a bit higher.

I've got a black manual 981 boxster s with sports exhaust.

You do have to rev it pretty high to get it to make any decent noise, which will be affected by the gearing as discussed.

And your licence could easily be affected by the resultant speed chasing the noise.

If they made the boxster exhaust sing better at low revs it would possibly be the best car I'd ever owned.

One more thing.

PSE varies a lot between individual cars, and isn't always as good as advertised on the porsche website, and porsche don't recognise 3rd party road tests on YouTube as evidence of what it should sound like.

On the whole I was very dissatisfied with it but porsche more or less said they disagreed with me, and I had to accepts he substantial noise differential was within acceptable limits.

I think this era Boxster is the best looking car Porsche make just now (918 included), and if you didn't know better and put a 911 badge on the back, it could probably command a higher price, all just IMO of course.

I know what people here are saying about the gearing, it could become frustrating. I had a 997 previously and one of the finest points of it was heel and toeing the downshifts and getting a decent bash through the gears before you had to come over all sensible again. I wouldn't mind finding out first hand though.....

And I also agree that if only the lovely noise could come on lower in the rev range, it would make it so much more enjoyable rather than having to go screaming to the redline each time to enjoy the sound, which I know for a great number of Pistonheads is a HUGE factor in a car!, so much so that I bought one purely for the sound alone.....

I have to complete my spec for a new Boxster GTS by Monday June 30th. I am happy with the spec so far, racing yellow, GTS exterior pack, yellow dials, carbon steering wheel and cockpit highlights etc (sorry, but at 53 I still get excited about a new car!). QUESTION!!! PASM or Sports Suspension. Has anyone tried both and can opine on whether there is a broad or narrow gulf between PASM in sport mode and the full anologue sports suspension option?
Many thanks

Agreed

Agreed. Fortunately one of the few options I specified were front and rear parking sensors.

Yes, I love the ferocity of the car in 2nd and 3rd for real world driving. Don't understand the people who complain about the gear ratios.
