There does seem to be differences on the reported weight.

Looks like it’s been covered in double sided tape and ram raided Halfords. It’s not for me.

Autocar weighed a manual car with a full tank, no driver/passengers/luggage on the MIRA bridge -1560 kg ( the M135i they had weighed 1545kg )

It was never going to be as light as an E46 CSL (1420kg)

I like how BMW charge for left and right kidney grilles separately ! Who would want just the left, or just the right in black. Unless some scrote stole it of course.

Well you've answered you own question. No doubt you'd be the first to complain if one got damaged and they we're sold as pairs.

Do people realize that the M235i weighs just as much as a E46 or E92 M3? It's over 3500 lbs, for god's sake. It is definitely not the return of the 2002.

For all that, it's only 50 lbs. less than the 335i, on the same damned platform. What the hell is the point again?
This thread is the point.

It sets these corners of the internet alight, and BMW know it only too well....

I was in a main dealer in Manchester and an attractive blonde had just come to pick up her white M235i Auto

To be honest both looked great, If I could have bought one there and then and raced her home I would of !

We can all dream cant we :-)

Car looks great apart from the wierd wing mirror silver/cream/grey which look very odd on all the M performance cars IMO, unless you have a silver or grey car hence the carbon fibre modifications. The wing mirrors shouldnt be the first thing you notice about a car should they ?

I am awaiting a 235, other than the auto box I ticked 'most' the options you would want and with a healthy discount got it for 34k got the grills and gear shift ready for collection and exhaust will follow shortly. You could add the exhaust and LSD to mine and still be short of 40k.

Try speccing a Cayman S up with nav, premium sound, sports exhaust, etc etc and it is a lot lot more.

Yes are you? It lists in manual form at 34,260 I specced one with what I'd want on the car to match the spec of my frozen silver edition M3 it came to just over 40k list or 42k with the auto, add the performance extras as per the article and you get a list of around 50k,

I passed no comment regarding discounts or whether it was a rip off not or in fact that you could take a boggo car for the base cost plus discount.

So I'm not sure what where you're going with this.

My point was that to band figures of 50k around is unrealistic and doesn't set a fair baseline for the car. 90% of owners won't go near that total. Every car can be specced to a ridiculous amount, the concept of this car is a well priced, high performance car that acts as an entry point to the the full fat M cars. Considering this then speccing it to a level that will make it comparable to your M3 (which according to your profile looks comprehensive), of course will tip the scales.

I'm sure you can build a 90k Discovery but it won't ever make it a Range Rover, nor will 50k of M235i ever make it an M3.

Anyway, we deviate. Great car - pricey accessories!
You're barking at the night old boy, I made no reference to the situation being good or bad, merely pointed out what THAT car would probably list at, not what others may or may not choose as options.

But anyway carry on....

Seems ironic that many people critisise modern BMWs for being too bloated and techy, often use the E30 M3 as the ideal benchmark. Yet the same people critisise modern BMWs for being too expensive after they have added 8000s worth of 'essential' options you can't have it both ways.

I had a go in a 235i (manual - naturellment) around a track a couple of weeks back and I have to say it was yummy. Great under brakes, pointy and grunty. Star of the day for me and there was a lot of other heavy kit competing for your attention. Worth the money if you don't blow your brains out on options.

I'd expect them to be ordered separately from the parts desk. As an option on a new car though, i would expect them to be sold as a pair. When a customer of ours orders alloy wheels on their new car, I don't have to tell (insert manufacturer) they want 4, it's assumed. The price list also quotes a price for 4. They can order them as a single wheel from parts though, such as if they damage a wheel.

(Sorry for being slightly flippant, but you know what I mean)
