Bmw 6 series ... Why so cheap?
Discussion
Hi
Looking for some classy open top touring for £15k. I was looking at audi A5/A4 or Saab 9-3 .. But have been recommended a 6 series.
What's the catch ? Were more than 60 grand new. Fast , economical, gadgets etc. but now easily less than 15grand for. 2007 model with less than 60k on the clock.
Am I missing something ?
NB : I will clock around 15-20k a year.
Cheers
Rich

A 2007 car is also a 'banger' according to my mrs. I'm still trying to educate her, but she is stubborn!
Sounds like a spoilt lady to me.Remember that wife swap programme on TV a good few years ago? My wife drives 21 year old car...and I make her feel grateful for it! Give yours to me for a week...I'll teach her!
Running costs aren't too cheap for one of these, I'm guessing they aren't holding their value due to there being a new model having replaced it.
Running a 645ci for 18 months has taught me you get an awful lot of car for the money, and they have nice presence on the roads.
Felt cheaper inside than my E46 coupe though!
They can have real weaknesses around the auto gearbox, 350 for a tyre and other expensive consumables too probably catch people out who buy them!

Never had a problem with my wife, but then her 51 reg mini cooper gets mistaken for almost new by most of her snobby friends, who couldn't spot the difference between a generation 1 and a generation 3 at 12 paces. Have to add that my Aunt bought a brand new hi and dry st box. i10 I think. for 3 times what the cooper cost us. (but no 7 year warranty)
High running costs? compared to what?
OK, you're never going to get 50mpg, but I just shopped for a few 630i service items on ECP ( other European car parts websites are available) and trollied the following
Disks F+R
Pads F+R
Pad Wear Sensors x 4 ( probably not needed, but hey, you've got a flash car now
Oil Filter
Air Filter
and 10 litres of Helix, so you've got 3.5 litres for topping up/next service
All for under £300.

Dull stuff like a Focus - the sort of thing most people with £15k buy instead.Just in case anyone' thinking of spunking £15k on a washing machine.

The same stuff as above for a 2012 1.6 Focus comes in at £220. take the wear sensors off the 6 ( there aren't any on a Focus) and you're within £40.

I think you are rather missing the point if you keep focusing on consumables. A 2012 Focus is almost entirely likely to not develop any faults in the year in which you buy it, a 7 year old 6 Series is entirely likely to do exactly that - it's fixing broken stuff that gets most people not putting routine consumables on it.Just in case anyone' thinking of spunking £15k on a washing machine.
I'd have the 6 Series too, but you are deluding yourself if you think it has nearly new Focus running costs.
