Given that the XF is around 7 years old now with a refresh about 3 years ago, that looks absolutely stunning, and puts all the German marques to shame. To look that good after this amount of time is testament to Ian Callum's eye for detail

Also, given that performance of a lot of cars is bunching up at sub 5 seconds 0-60, then looks are far more important than ever. Given that, Jag are perfectly placed to to lead the pack given the mundane soulless crap that Merc, BMW and Audi currently produce.
A good point. They're all really quick. You buy them because they're really quick. If you feel the need to have the quickest, a family car probably isn't the best starting point.

They also all cost about the same. You can play tunes with discounts and options but frankly if you can afford one you can afford any of them. If a list price a few grand higher is a deal breaker then you're overstretching yourself in the first place.

That just leaves how they look and how they feel which is entirely subjective.

The AMG is a bit mad. The BMW is a bit geeky. The RS6 feels safe and planted and the Jag just gives a British interpretation of it but it's fun to drive, feels lively, makes you feel like a driving god and looks different.

You just choose whichever you like the best because in real life, on the roads, they're functionally all just estate cars that have more power than you can usually use. It's great to have it, but you're never going to find the Jag feeling slow and needing an E63 to get past that VW Polo in front.

My memory may be total faulty but wasn't the RS2 over £50k when in sale 20 years ago?

Means this car is cheap.

You are correct, I seem to remember £47k for the RS2 (corrections please) with only limited options for additional bits as most of the kit was standard. I think there was a bigger brake option but brembo system ok.
mine is totally standard apart period alpine system with sat nav and nokia h/f car phone.

One thing which I think would really help change the image for the better: The option of British racing green exterior paint.

I agree with that. I may have opted for BRG had it been available.

Neither relevant nor fun. Fact is we live in a country where it rains 300+ days a year. Had a "new shape" (57 plate) XKR a couple of years back. Terrifying to hit surface water in it at much over 60. Where can you seriously use or enjoy any car over 400bhp outside a race track? As for the oh so low profile tyres. Lovely car spoilt by being "Nurburged".

That's more to do with the width of the rubber and type of rubber than the cars performance in regards to aquaplaning. Run of the mill Audis/VWs etc are just as affected by it nowadays with silly wide rubber fitted.

Buy better rubber suited to wet weather or winter rubber for the winter months and the problem will go away.

I see Jaguar have taken a leaf out of VAG's 'horrific wheel design' book. Nasty.

They are a bit 'Demon Tweeks' or 'Ford Dealer Fit Special' - but I'm not really sure what else would work on that shape...

You don't see anything fun in a 550bhp RWD estate car?

The cooking XF isn't a bad looking car since they sorted the lights (but be prepared for the 90's if you venture inside) shame the XFR-S looks so tacky.

I would look better if they had pressed some new flared panels rather than sticking bits of plastic on it whilst nipping down to Motorworld for a set of wheels.

Holden Commodore SSV Sportwagon - 6.0 V8 pushing out about 360bhp but easily tuneable to 4-600bhp.

Probably better to go for the HSV version - 425bhp and again easy to get up near 6-700bhp.
