bring the german mot thing over here that would sort it out not our half arsed mot that you dont even need an engine in the car to pass if teh car is pre god know what
Was it Georg Karcher who, while long-term testing a new Evo V for Car, got pulled by the Polizei under such rules? They wouldn't have it that the car wasn't illegally modified, until he produced the drivers manual from the glovebox with a pic of the car on it, big wings and all! DrDeAtH said:
Tyre stretching.... My personal pet hate
It look ridiculous, and who knows what damage its doing to the tyre carcass....

The upsetting thing about that Corrado is that, with that engine and the chassis modifications it's running, it would be a fantastic fast road/track car. But with badly fitted tyres, it's not only made an otherwise fantastic looking car ugly but also impeded the performance that the owner has clearly spent a great deal of money pursuing.
It would look a million times better running 1" narrower rears with slightly pulled arches to accommodate tyres that actually fit.

I don't see how lowering a car would make it less safe.
However I agree with your stance on stretched tyres, I don't know whether they would be as hard wearing due to the extra tension from the stretch, of course thats just my way of figuring it if I'm wrong then I apologise.
As for massive wheels that personal taste, theres not really any safety issues associated with them I guess, no different to a massive range rover sport having colossal wheels on it really, nowadays Golfs etc can come as standard with 20" alloys, I personally wouldn't have them on the UK's awful roads but they must be safe to use with the cars otherwise Manufacturer's wouldn't sell them.

One of the guys I know used to run stupid stretch and camber. He had to run 65psi to stop the beads from popping off over every single bump. But you could still pop them off with a screwdriver and he regularly used to have them pop while driving occasionally.
It's stupid. Roll on them banning it.

Lowering to the point where suspension travel is minimal will cause the car to bottom out, smack bump stops and/or coilbind the springs when going over bumps and/or loading up in corners, dips etc. Any one of these events could be enough to cause a tyre to loose contact with the road mid-corner and subsequently, the driver to lose control.motorhole said:

I drive a modified car, tbh many people probably feel its unsafe, although these people dont see the countless hours i spend maintaining the car, hours that man standard road users don't put in (tyre pressures, uprated brakes ect)
The amount of people i see driving standard cars while playing with their phone/ipad/testicles is crazy, i physically cant do any of this due to the concentration it requires to avoid the many potholes!

he's talking about the utter cretins who do this sort of thing to their cars
To cap it all off, they generally use the cheapest rubber as well becasue they are trashing them so often.
A compulsory 50-0 wet braking test would certainly be illuminating.
Lol. I passed on the weekend a red Renault 5 Turbo that had been slammed almost as bad as that. Couldn't stop laughing for hours. To cap it all off, they generally use the cheapest rubber as well becasue they are trashing them so often.

The Tyre place next door to me had a 3 series BMW come in today and the owner wanted a different set of wheels with stretched tyres put on, The customer had brought the wheels with tyres with him and was happy to pay to get them put on because he "had no jack that would go under the car".
As they were doing it they found that to get the previous wheels to stick out of the arches the owner had used 4 sets of "one size fits all" spacers all round, to get over the problem of the wheel studs being too short to go through the 4 spacers per hub he had bought a load of threaded bar and cut it down, then he used nuts to hold the whole lot together.
Customer is a known racer and beats the piss out of this car all day every day. How the wheels remained on the hubs and did not come off I have no idea.

But what is some little scamp decides to modify their car AFTER having the test done? They could even put the car back to standard before one of these tests, and then modify again afterwards!??!?!
Seriously though, are "stanced" (is that the word? and is that what you're getting at OP) cars really dangerous? Sure they might handle a bit st, but then so does a Vauxhall corsa.
Guy I work with does this, come MOT time he swaps out his dumped on the ground coilovers for his OEM suspension. Then once it passes swaps them back.Seriously though, are "stanced" (is that the word? and is that what you're getting at OP) cars really dangerous? Heard a horrific scraping noise while driving through town a couple months back. Turned out it was the front bumper of a MINI going the opposite way grinding along the floor. I can only assume that in an emergency stop it would skid along on its subframe/ sump until it wallops something.

Standard Corsa are like boats. Drop them 3/4cm and chuck in some Bilstein B4/B6 shocks and you're still driving a corsa, but it's a little bit closer to the ground than before Seriously though, are "stanced" (is that the word? and is that what you're getting at OP) cars really dangerous?
