0-60mph was somewhere around the 6.5-second mark - in other words, slightly quicker than the DC2
Not so! The DC2 was 6.2 seconds, but this is pretty irrelevant as out on the road there's two thirds of sod all in it on the straights, but the DC5 has more grip in the twisties. Loved my DC2 and I've always fancied a DC5 but have been put off by their relatively high prices and expensive insurance (although probably not now I've reached the magic age...).

What no mention of it's BTCC credentials? It did do quite well.
I wasn't aware of this, had to use Google for more info.

A chap owned a phase 1 DC5 (prefer the earlier styling though like the sound of the refinements they brought in - much like an S2000 I guess) just near where I lived and still gets various imports and such - always interesting to see them up close. It was finished in the metallic blue and I have to say, I loved the look of it. Been wanting to get a screaming VTEC of some description for years but good ones for an amount I can afford are few and far between frown

I'll probably get an EP3 or similar soon I think but I'd love to get either a DC2 or 5 smile

On the subject of Hondas, I did see an FD2 in Championship White not all that long ago and the amount of rust on it considering the age was horrendous. I know it's an import but was shocked probably as the white highlighted it so much. My '97 Coupe has less rust than that one did tongue out
I agree with everything you said really except rust issues I have no idea about that.
I love the look of Metallic Blue DC5s with the blue carpets mmmm. biggrin I also agree about the facelift a bit of visual character was lost when they flattened the lights off.
I only wish Honda had imported them officially as I think they'd cost about a third less for the same car and there would be loads more around. I guess they decided they'd be too expensive for this market same reason they didn't fit an LSD in the EP3.

Had mines for around 16 months now. Always preferred the facelift and had a black 05 plate facelift in 2007. Really wanted silver this time due to rarity. Few differences not mentioned between facelift and pre-facelift was the revised front suspension dampers and the carbon lined synchromeshes on the facelift model.

Gratuitous pic of mines. Have enjoyed it thoroughly but thinking of selling up and going turbo again for a bit.

Had a 96 spec DC2 in between both of the 5's. It was a non airbag, non abs model. I removed the aircon and rear interior, stuck on some R888's and had an absolute blast.

Cheers,
Melly

Certainly seem to be holding a good price!

Given the choice I'd take a clean DC2 over a DC5 but the numbers of unmolested, non-rusty DC2s must be dropping off sharply by now. I had a EP3 for a while and did consider a DC5 but at the time I couldn't justify the difference in price.

Definitely one of the best Hondas around, such a shame the ITR got killed off (as with most of the Japanese sports car scene in the mid 2000s...)

Great car and nice write up. Still prefer my DC2 though, and if we are posting gratuitous pics of our own, then here's mine with the weekend toy

Loved my DC5, regret selling it more than my DC2, under-rated imo.

I had a 98 spec jdm dc2, then an 04 s2000 and now a 55 dc5 (identical to the photos in the article). They are all great cars... The s2k I never quite gelled with. The dc5 is an amazing all rounder. The dc2 is the most fun for me. I just felt so 'at one' with it. The way it responds to inputs and overall feel. Just felt so good. It's been said enough times before, the 5 is bigger, faster, comfier, but it has lost slightly that sparkle for me. I still love it. But I gotta admit, I loved the 2 more. Currently doing 300 miles a week in it. smile great to see it get recognition on here!

Owned both, DC2 and DC5.

Din't gel with the DC5 as much, I ended up selling for a Clio Trophy (which I preferred).

Huge grip in the DC5 but it didn't feel as fun as the two aforementioned cars. Felt quite serious and no doubt on track it is in its element.
Looks wise though the DC5 is still a looker, some 13 years after its release. And to be a bit controversial one of the last cars to look good in white.

One last thing the headlights popped on two occasions and it wasn't a cheap fix, this sealed its fate with me and went up for sale. Honda reliability eyh! wink

As already said breathing mods make this car come alive. Engine/box must be one of the best ever IMO.

@ 1180 kgs standard they are bloody light (for quite a spacious road car) and corner really well with long wheelbase.

Wanted one for so long and now I've owned one for 6 years. Still love it as much as I did when I first saw it, still a head turner even after all this time.

I like the look of them but I just can't get my head around the price of them. So many better cars can be bought for the money they go for.

I think I heard there is about 350 in the UK now. Which is why, despite being so similar, they are worth so much more than the domestic EP3... because there are around 16,000 of those!

had my facelift red for 8 years now. dont drive it daily anymore as it is a waste on city roads. not much can compare for the price. gets 5* in all categories for me.

Nice looking cars and they seem to go pretty well. See a dark blue one round here ( like below ) that's always very clean and tidy. Sub 1200kg is pretty light for a 21st Century 4-seater with big wheels and brakes

.. .,.

.. ., .

The Racing version that was offered at 2/3 the cash ( stripped out ) seemed like good value for money

Beautiful engine and noise. Endless revs. Great handling. Average design. Ugly interior. They are a bit of a Marmite car. You generally either love them or you don't.
