99 grand, who actually spends 99 grand on a car?
nice car but 99 grand!!
Plenty of people spend £99k on a car.nice car but 99 grand!!
I think wealth is one of those things that tends to creep up on you (lottery notwithstanding) and most wealthy people never feel "rich", you just buy better stuff, for some this will be, relatively, the booby prize as they cant stretch to a 458. there aren't many people where they have no constraints on what they buy, short of Celebrities, Sportspeople and oil Sheikhs.

I finally saw one of these in person in a parking lot. I knew what it was right away which is a good thing, but it didn't really impress me.
Same here, I'm not saying that it's ugly, but not as good looking as the way people make it out to be. Both desirable -but not extra so.

911 turbo s =£ 142,120.00
1978 911 turbo Martini £78,000(apparently) = £320,000 today
1986 911 turbo se £75,000 = £191766 today
And besides Jags have historically always been cheaper than German rivals.

It makes those 80's ones look expensive if so. And it makes the current one look steep too given they sell loads more of them these days too. No wonder profit margins are through the roof.
As per costs, £1200 a month to 'own' £100,000 of car sounds really high.
I suppose eventually you won't want a bigger house, bigger mortgage, you have the most expensive big watch and stuff, and your disposable income starts to go up quite quickly within reason.
I'm still amazed people just spend it on cars though, I think I'd get tighter with money the more wealthy I got
I always thought I would be tighter too but I make a good income nowadays.
It's exactly as J4cko says. It's incremental changes really. I never really used to enjoy eating beef when I lived with my parents, for example. I learned later that I just didn't like the cheaper cuts. Costco sell nice Angus fillets up here and last night I bought just that. We sometimes get Ribeye or Sirloin but if it's me shopping I only buy fillets because that's what I like. Similarly with booze - why would you choose OVD rum when you can easily afford a nice Appleton 12yr old rum instead. When booking holidays it's all too tempting to click the 'upgrade flights' buttons to make the trip a bit more pleasant etc etc. In short, the more you earn, the more you spend. In context therefore, a £100k car doesn't seem so bad providing the important things are taken care of first and quality of life isn't affected. I want more of my mortgage blitzed before I'd spend quite that much myself mind, but I have only just changed houses so it takes time.

I am more like Mr Whippy. The more I have the less I spend. But the more I get out of my money, particularly with cars. I have halved the max amount any car is worth to me in 10 years from £25k to £12k or so, and that's ignoring inflation. BUT I run my cheapo car 3/4 times a year at the Ring as if I bin it, the loss will be negligible whereas £25k worth of car would have been painful 10 years ago. Needless to say I enjoy my motoring far more now.

Wasn't the 996 Turbo cheaper than the 993, something like £88,000 starting price?

993 = 97k
Today's bargain is surely a 996 Turbo with X50 pack for under 30 grand. what a steal!
anyway I saw an F Type the other day and thought it looks a lovely thing, but is too big and heavy. Something like 1755 KG on the Autocar scales for the V6, which is frankly ridiculous when the base Cayman came in at 1365, nearly 400KG, yes 400KG lighter. No wonder despite a 100 BHP power advantage it laps the track barely any faster....Jag really do need to get the weight out of their cars. I cant see how a proper sports car can be 1750 KG. Gordon Murray always said 1300-1400KG was the max for a sports car and I think he was right.

A nice car but one again Jag had let us down with its promise of a sports car. This is far too heavy to be a sports car. It's more super coupe that's decent in the corners. And there's no way is worth the price. Originally we were promised a Cayman and Boxter rival but these are more 911 rivals. A sports car should come as standard with a MANUAL gearbox with auto as an option.
Come on Jaguar, lose the weight lose the price tag and give us aproper sports car.
