First i saw a 'black edition' Corsa, this was a warm-hatch, not as hot as the VXR, but not as tame as a 1.2, Then there was a 'Black edition' Fiesta, in a similar position, Now i have just seen a 'Black edition' Civic.

What is this trend? if they are all trying to target the same market, why have car makers not thought of something a little more original?

Has anyone bought a 'black edition' of car if so, what was the appeal?

I think Ford Black Editions are usually really well specced run-out models released just before a new model is released. I do, however, stand to be corrected!

It seems (to me) that the black editions means a bit sporty, but low insurance group with good economy figures.

Maybe grey edition is a better term? (or even Beige?)

It's just another stupid, marketing lead, name for a spec level. No different to the word "Sport" being misused for the same purpose.

Vauxhall also do the white edition as far I'm aware the white one is 1.4, 18inch alloys, white leather bolsters and white cloth centres and completely pointless. But are lapped up by girls who can say they have a limited edition.

How do you know I hear you ask? the gf has the white edition, no you can't have pictures, no we dont agree it was the right car.

I'm sure I saw an Aygo 'Black' earlier this week... silly

Made no difference, still a line of traffic behind the little st box.

I beleive there is also an 'Amplified Black Pack' available for one of the tedious 'Black Edition' S-Line Audi's. A1 I think.

Its is an overused term thats for sure, marketing people with a lack of imagination.

Not sure why anyone would end up waiting behind an Aygo, we have a C1 which is the same thing and it is by no means fast but it is plenty quick enough to keep up with traffic, in fact I tend to end up stuck behind other people in much more powerful cars who are dawdling, suspect that is mostly the driver.

There's also a new Black Edition Honda CRV. It's, er, black. That's about it. Talk about jumping on the bandwagon.

There was an Amplified Edition last year, limited run that didn't last long. But no such thing as an Amplified Black Pack itself on an A1, you may be thinking of the TT?

We have a Audi TTS Black Edition its only a package including darkened rear windows and dark bits and bobs on the bodywork...I would be more happy if it added another 100bhp under the bonnet though!

How is it pointless if people want them and buy them? I'm sure people don't buy them to say they have a limited edition, probably just because they like the look of them.

No idea, was some 2 litre diesel hatchback covered in bling which is what, half the Audi range these days, so I appreciate that it doesn't help narrow it down hehe
