I think i made a stupid decision today, well i didnt have a clue about these blue v5's, i bought a car and it had a blue v5, i checked the vin on the car and it matched, i thought all was fine to find out now all of them should have been changed to red. Now the v5 isent in the batch numbers of the stolen ones but im really worried. The hpi check came back clear apart from issue date not the same as dvla. Could the owner have just lost the red? The post office sent off the form to make me the new keeper, am i likely to have any trouble
Yes im an idiot.

No, unless the details have been changed since July 2011 it wil still have the blue V5.

I got a red automatically, no changes. According to this they should ALL be red by now.

What does this bit say? I can't make sense of it.
The stolen ones had set batch numbers and the one i had is not in the range of numbers. (Asin the serial number of the document)Perhaps he filed the letter without opening it.
Just because he didn't give you a red one doesn't mean one hasn't been issued.
I've had some comical experiences with the DVLA so it is perfectly reasonable that a few vehicles slipped through the net and didn't get new V5s.

only problem is it says dont send the blue one back to dvla it needs to be destroyed (when they issued everyone a red one), and ive just sent it off to say im the new keeperPerhaps he filed the letter without opening it.

They will know the name of the registered keeper and so if it matches the name on the V5, that's a start.
Have you been in touch with the seller about this?
It may require sitting on the phone for a while but a call to the DVLA on Monday may be helpful.
I would not automatically assume that you are screwed, it may just take a bit of work to straighten it all out.

Well the hpi check came back that the issue date was different so im assuming the previous owner didnt open his mail or lost the red one. Have you been in touch with the seller about this?

Would they refuse to send me another v5 if i sent proof of the reciept etc??
I'll tell you why. Because the dvla are incompetent s and this fk up resulted in me losing a sale.
The dvla issued all these new red log books, but didn't tell HPI the new details so when you HPI a car and give them the details from the red one it came back as wrong. The blue one was ok, but my buyer lost confidence in the car.
It wouldn't concern me.
