What 3k diesel estate?
Discussion
I really like the Mk3 mondeo tbh
I have had one for about 5 years and stuck a good 60k on it taking it to aroind 143k expecting it to lug my massive stereo around and its behaved itself with no real issues
Until this weekend when the electrics have gone screwey and effectively killed the car - BUT even thought this one died I would still get another one (i may just do that if i can find one in my price range) as they just get on with the job of being a car and I really like how they drive

do any of the models we discussed even have DPFs?
Was thinking the same. They all look at least a generation before DPFs were introduced.I'd be looking for Euro 3, so they won't have DPF.
V70 D5?

When did Euro 4 come in out of interest? i.e. what's the newest vehicle I can look at to avoid DPFs?I'd be looking for Euro 3, so they won't have DPF.

It was EXACTLY why I went for a Euro3 2003 Volvo S60 D5 a few years back (incidentally The same one MissB uses as her daily, it is approaching 180k still going strong).

How about these?
Not as practical as the car it replaced but my dad has mostly owned Peugeots/Citroens for the last 20 years, as he likes the diesel engines, smooth ride and comfy seats.
If he's not scared of French then how about a Citroen C5 estate? The facelift is supposed to be much better than the original version and 2.0HDi is the best engine, with either six speed manual or the Aisin Warner six speed auto, not the earlier four speed. He should be able to get a good one for the budget. People don't seem to rate the 407 over the 406 - more problems. Not as practical as the car it replaced but my dad has mostly owned Peugeots/Citroens for the last 20 years, as he likes the diesel engines, smooth ride and comfy seats.

With the V70s, you want to hit the holy grail, and that is a facelift car with the older engine:
So, you need to be looking for 54 and 05 plate cars, on the facelift, but with the black top (163bhp euro3) engine.
I had one, it was brilliant. Sold it with 185k miles on original injectors, clutch , DMF, turbo, intercooler, still returned 42mpg average (despite being ragged) and it just would not give up.
Marvellous cars
Mine, at the top of the Gotthard
My PH thread about it is here:

Nicely done yep black top engine (163bhp) on as new plate as you can.So, you need to be looking for 54 and 05 plate cars, on the facelift, but with the black top (163bhp euro3) engine.

My dad is not so keen on the larger Volvo estates but quite likes these.
Any good? Who's engine is the 1.9 diesel?
They're quite good actually. Very economical and can take high miles well. Any good? Who's engine is the 1.9 diesel?
The engine is a Renault F9Q but gearbox and plumbing all Volvo's and they don't tend to give problems.

Doesn't work like that I'm afraid. Some later cars don't have them & some earlier ones do. I had an absolutely awful 2009 Astra 1.9cdti estate without one & currently have a 2006 407 2.0sw estate that also doesn't have one. cptsideways said:
Looks better than current 2014 Focusolvo offerings
Although I have currently two 2000 onwards Volvos (and really love Pre-2000 models) I can honestly say I really can't see me buying another newer Volvo when the time come to replace either. The V40 is a safe bet though as it is an earlier design that has had a long run.
