Pointless moderation for the sake of it..

Fair enough it was a stupid topic but was in the lounge where stupid topics are supposed to be. Go on, tell me the bloke who didn't know that the site displayed how many posts you had made knew how to request his topic closed
They're just out there doing stuff to look busy, it's the equivalent of a HSE bloke making people wear hard hats and high viz jackets in the middle of a field because they have to justify their existence. Someone should close 'nurts Login thread.

Nostalgia. Not as good a it used to be
Yeah, it has changed a lot over the years, I remember when all this was fields etc.
It's far more mainstream now, however I don't think the 'essence' of the forums has been lost as such - we merely have a far bigger, more diverse pool of posters than before. I agree about the moderation being a wee bit more strict - but I guess that's a sign of the times, more people posting = more crap posted. If there was far less moderation, then we'd have tons more crap to wade through - and arguably standards would slip.
Imagine if the moderation slacked off and we lost our tight 'grammar, punctuation, spelling and legibility' policy? I would throw myself under a bus if that happened
The key to continued enjoyment is to do what I do - never get involved with arguing to the point it descends into abuse, and treat people with respect (yes it is words on t'internet - but that doesn't mean that there isn't a human being behind each post). Like road rage, it is sometimes easy to 'de-humanise' posts, and react in a manner which one would never react in real life, face to face.
Lastly, although some of my posts can be a wee-bit long-winded (as I have been ribbed about in the past ) I try to post stuff which is at least a bit interesting and maybe informative or helpful.
Anyway, I've been here a long time, and I still love it. I hope the proposed changes do not alter the place too much - as some people have already said, I would be disappointed to lose the clean, simple layout and allow millions of pics, avatars and ridiculous signatures. That WOULD be a step in the wrong direction.
Peace and love!

Given the number of people posting with 100+ months membership I'd say there's still much that's OK about PH. The crowd has changed - sure. It's been many years since I was actively posting (and/or going on events - I still remember CarZee crashing my car in France and me laughing beer into Dave's face) but PH is still here....
I'm always wary of becoming the old fart sat in the corner complaining about 'how it wasn't how it used to be'....

PH has changed from community forum with a village feel
To a large city with a commercial feel
But I guess it was inevitable as its a business not a charity but sadly this also means the adverts get in the way of functionality particularly if you use iPads etc which simply cannot cope with flashy ads and the irritating pop up video ads that deafen
More frustratingly for me is the "Crashifieds" once the best classifieds now painful to use and simply crash constantly
I'm sure in the long run it will get back to its core initial values and appeal
As for the growing trolls population it would be easier to control an Ebola outbreak

For as long as I can remember people have been saying PH is being ruined by rude and/or stupid people.

I guarantee there'll be even older ones if you can be bothered looking for them.
