Very honest and funny article from mr harris. Shame he has gone subscription only elsewhere.
Likley the real reason is to pay for the weekend he has just described!
Subscribe for a year and It's just over two quid a month.Likley the real reason is to pay for the weekend he has just described!
What was the last thing you bought for two quid, and did it give you as much pleasure as watching a LaFerrari being given a good thrashing?

I'd want it in a gilded lily trimmed with unicorn pubes for that much
Going by the picture of aforesaid towbar those unicorn pubes wouldn't look out of place. But anyway, I've always thought Autobiography a bit of an odd name. I wonder what the autobiography of a typical RR Autobiography would contain? "I was born in in thousand and such-and-such and started drinking heavily from then on....then I got an ulcer above my back passage which wouldn't go away without a minor medical procedure (the cream didn't work)...."... and so on...

Have heard back from Guy Salmon Bristol. Putting in a claim under perforation warranty. "We're going for a new tailgate and hopeful it will be approved".
Good work Chris - I guess you have a certain influence! I took mine to (not sure I can mention the name?) a main JLR dealership in Surrey, just off the A3 about halfway between London and Portsmouth with the exact same problem and they basically told me to get lost. The anti corrosion warranty is valid for 6 years but only if the ofending panel rusts from the inside out and only if it's so bad that there's a hole through the metal. We all know that won't happen inside 6 years, not even to one of these tin cars.I complained and got nowhere, it's very disappointing.
The tailgate window rubbers also corroded and are bubbling top and bottom - they're £38 each plus labour and VAT. These aren't covered as they're trim parts.
The car is 4 years old. It cost over £80k new and has always been serviced at LR main dealers.
LR just do not care, or so it seems to me.

I reckon that OEM accessories such as towing kit all cost about the same to make regardless of the car. They just charge what the market will bear. In the case of the average (newer) Range Rover owner they're often got more money than brains. Hence 600 quid for a tow hook from the main dealer, when 70 or 80 should be more like it.
Chris Chris Chris.
I have a Discovery 3 with a muckle great towing hook (4 different anchor points!) that I keep meaning to remove because it I think it looks like a dried-out prolapse and I've as much chance of using it as Bernie has of going to the clinker. You coulda had it for a free subscription to Drive+ AND got a drive up to the UK's best roads (Scotland) to collect. I now feel the need to apologise for probably upsetting you.

I believe the corroding tailgates is fairly standard, certainly I've read about it before and my 2006 L322 certainly has a few little bubbles on the panel below the rear window. Nothing serious yet, you can barely spot them unless you're washing the car, but something I'm sure will only get worse.
However, I do have my towing hook stowed in the boot so although I'll never ever use it, at least I know my car has a minimum trade price of £600.
£600!!! What a fecking rip off.

Love my '07 4.2l s/c L322 - keep thinking about alternatives but can't bring myself to do it. No reliabilty issues. Yet.
Also there is a very good new specialist in Battersea, central London called RR London www.rrlondon.co.uk ex Lookers Battersea dealer guys who go above and beyond at half the price (it seems) so well worth checking it out if you're in town.

It won't fit his L322, but it will fit my Sport... Full setup for SWMBO's CRV cost me just over £200 in 2011 IIRC. I seem to remember others were quoting under the £200 mark but I decided to pay more to go Witter and have it done in Bridgwater in work time rather than the Midlands in my own time ;-)
Though, if I was just after a swan neck, I would've visited the Bay of Thieves I think. £600????!!!!

Can they put in a similar claim for "perforation" of your wallet after robbing you of £600 for a small bent bit of metal??? ;-)Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
