Flemke - Is this your McLaren? (Vol 5)
Discussion
Regarding the weight of a Pagani Zonda, the following is a translation from Dutch of a quote from Toine Hezemans, team principal of Carsport America (formerly known as Carsport Holland), who tried to turn a Zonda into a racing-car. The Zonda only did 10 laps of Le Mans in 2003.
"Pagani has always said to us that a street-Zonda weighed 1.225 kgs. That number was also published in all his brochures. So we thought that the racecar, without upholstery, heavy street gearbox etc. etc. easily could be brought down to 1.000 kgs. But it weighed 1.150! That could not be true. After a hefty discussion with Horacio Pagani we put the street-Zonda on the scales and it turned out to weigh 1.375 kgs.!"

What a thing!
@Flemke
I know you aren't the biggest fan of the Scuderia. I assume you have driven a (or owned?) F40 at some point in your life. Can you appreciate them even though you don't like the company? Or does the whole offset steering wheel, laggy turbo (A N Other foibles) make you dislike it enormously?

I am shocked, monsieur, simply shocked! "Pagani has always said to us that a street-Zonda weighed 1.225 kgs. That number was also published in all his brochures. I like the idea - stripped out, basic, with nice touches such as the cable for opening the door and the cheap felt on the dashboard. I don't care for turbos, especially with so much lag, and the build quality is essentially at the 1960s Fiat level. Mitigating that, the looks are excellent - of its time but transcending its time.
As a matter of principle, I cannot bring myself to buy a Ferrari. Certain cars tempt me, such as the 250 SWB and the 599 GTO, maybe an FF, but I have stayed strong! If the F40 were say an old Alfa or Peugeot, I probably I would have got one by now, but it isn't and I haven't.

Surprised you mention an 599 GTO - nice engine, sure - but that is one unnecessarily ugly looking car.I like the idea - stripped out, basic, with nice touches such as the cable for opening the door and the cheap felt on the dashboard. Having said that, the weirdness (and practicality) of the FF does kind of appeal to me.

They look fairly light when wall mounted.
One assumed the engine has been removed as this is in a condo in Miami and I wouldn’t like to live below it.
Despite all the articles suggesting the contrary, that is not a real Zonda mounted inside Pablo's house - just a shell meant to mimic the real car he owns. One assumed the engine has been removed as this is in a condo in Miami and I wouldn’t like to live below it.

I wouldn't know about this specific Williams, or the Pagani, but it is standard practice for Formula One teams to have an outside supplier make up a bunch of "chassis" each year out of glass reinforced polyester (rather than carbon-fibre) and lacking any metal or other parts that would not be visible from the exterior. Many of the dealer showroom and sponsor cars that are used for public display are complete fakes.
That would make a lot of sense, there is a low budget tyre place near me (might even be called F1) with an old Jordan hanging from the ceiling, always seemed an expensive frippery!flemke said:

I wonder if that was the case with the IIRC Senna Marlboro car hanging at Genesis all those years ago?(Can't find a pic online, but its in Driving Ambition IIRC)

Flemke,
Have you previously said that you one of the lucky 106 on the list for a Speedtail?
If so, when are the 106 likely to see the final design ?

I remain baffled by whoevers running McLarens Automotive's PR department
The Senna reviews are only just out there, but already they've unveiled 600LT (launched at Goodwood FOS), so still fresh in peoples minds. So instead of milking the LT for a bit, they move straight to a new car that is apparently sold out. So you cant order it anyway.
And then the vid shows us even less than the teaser pics from ages ago.
So why not show us a proper teaser nearer the time?
