Why the mention of the SL65 Black here? I can't see one in the images above....or am I missing something? smile
Image URL suggests this is the black edition. wink

Hmmm, that image isn't appearing on my laptop! Yet all the others are, that'll be why I didn't see it.

What's the best chance of seeing an F1?

I've been a huge fan since I first saw it on Top Gear with Tiff hammering it round Goodwood and even my username is a tribute to the LM winning car. Feel like I know far, far too much about them but that's major thanks to the likes of flemke, hurstg01, Peloton25 and the rest of the folks that provide insight into the F1 world and would consider myself a good source of info on the different chassis thanks to the help of those people but a huge part of my F1 fandom is missing and that's seeing one with my own eyes in the flesh (well, carbon).

There's usually one or two at GFoS every year so perhaps I should finally bite the bullet and drive down for the weekend and enjoy it but circumstances have dictated that I've not been able to thus far.

I'm based in Merseyside so it's hardly surprising that I've never seen one but it's not like I can just drive down south to where they're all based on a whim and just drive around hoping to catch a glimpse of one in the wild is it?

Someday I'll finally see one. Must be a dream to see 50+.

I took a picture of this one at goodwood Supercar Sunday in about May I think. Andy74B was also there with his Lark car but I didn’t take any photos because he had his young daughter with him and I’m not a weirdo.

interesting, thanks for that.

the SL65 surprised me somewhat smile
Yes, I appreciate that it is not classically elegant, but it has some nice lines, a healthy aggressiveness without going OTT, and one of the best looking wheel designs I have ever seen.

Following on from my post earlier this week ,there was 10 GTR's at the Goodwood MM 2015 and it was also

the 2015 or 16 London Excel classic show that gathered the half dozen I mentioned in a special display.

in words of one syllable (I'm a bit dim) could you explain why this side profile looks awkward to me? is it something to do with the belt or shoulder line? looks weird to me but can figure out why. Unless I simply have bad judgement/taste and its perfectly fine?

Several problems, none major but in combination they weaken the design too much.
As someone else has said, the steep swage line under the door handle coordinates with nothing else. The angular side light cuts awkwardly into the top of the front wing. The angular aperture between the headlamp and the front wheel arch relates to nothing else. I don't think the wheelbase is too short, but the tyres look too small (perhaps an effect of the thin polished ring against the black). The profile of the roof as it falls towards the Kamm tail is okay, but the last third of the top line of the window should not be parallel with that roof line and instead should have a slightly tighter radius (fall back at a sharper angle than the roof line does). Also, it's hard from this perspective to know how well the extended rear wing/aperture works; it could be problematical.

Typical RHD BS. There are 8 LHD for sale on mobile.de, the cheapest with fewer than 9000 miles, crash-free, offered at equivalent to £200k.

I did/do yes. It's not anywhere near as active nowadays but I still try to have a look on there and contribute when/what I can.

Learnt most if not all of what I know from that section and the great folks in it and the rest is what you've discussed and given out on here (thank you as ever) so it's been a lot of help.

Hi.

Not normally into "park and polish" but decided to give this a try last September. An outstanding selection of cars inc three F1's.

https://concoursofelegance.co.uk

Great VFM in my opinion for such a selection of cars.

Book a train to Euston well in advance and search the web for promotion codes for the event and it shouldn't cost a fortune.

We did the Friday which was really quiet.

If you can get to the London/Woking area, we'll figure out a way for you to see one (or possibly more). Would that be possible?

That would be utterly incredible flemke thank you.

I could certainly take a trip down one day if it was at all possible, as said it's a trek from Merseyside if you're going on a whim hoping to see something but if I knew there was a chance I'd be down there ASAP. I quite enjoy a good long trip in fairness.

Honestly wouldn't even know where to begin to show my gratitude.

Cool. I have had my Pistonheads PM function disabled, so we'll have to figure out another way of communicating. It may take a bit of time - present weather not ideal - but leave it with me. smile

Awesome gesture.

There's an 570GT MSO Black I drive past everyday in the next village to me, desperate to meet the bloke as he had a lovely Targa Porsche before it but no idea how to go about it without coming across as a right weirdo or potential thief laugh

I'm particularly interested as I designed some of the tooling for it but never got the chance to go with my boss to the factory so haven't actually seen one up close what I stared at in CAD for so long.

I'm not a fan of the old Italian hard tops. With such thin pillars, they always look to me as though a strong wind would blow the roof off.
Siata and Moretti wouldn't be my choices. Maser 300S and some little OSCAs - oh, yes!

AFAIK they still have XP5 (dark green prototype that set road car speed record), LM XP1 (LM prototype), and GTR #01 (Le Mans winner). The last time I was at MTC they were on display, as they normally have been for years.

In the last couple of years they have been selling some of the cars in their "Heritage" collection. I'm not sure whether they still have the dark green GT (longtail road car) and Davidoff-liveried GTR longtail.

In their September 2018 financial statement they listed their Heritage assets as being worth £56m, unchanged from December 2017. IIRC, those assets are valued at market value as of a few year ago.
