Does Evans still own the car?

Possibly the most stupid thing I have ever done, closely followed by the second most stupid thing I’ve ever done – which was then selling the F1."

Unless he acquired another after 2015?

If anyone was ever wondering if Chris Evans is a real 'petrolhead' and pondering his real motivations for such a high-profile collection, then there it is ^^^.

The plan was always to ship the car to the US as soon as it was PDI'd by the dealer. The car was paid for and delivered to that UK dealer in August 2018. As soon as I inspected the car at the dealer, I found that the factory had made a mistake with the spec. New parts had to be ordered, for which there was a six months' delay. In the meantime, the car was not legal to be registered for use or to be driven in the UK - hence the delivery mileage.

The car finally arrived in the US in early March. I had it delivered to a US McLaren dealer who did their own PDI and discovered a number of niggles that required rectification including another replacement part.
So it went through 2 Quality Controls and still had faults that you had to point out. eek

Was the US issues due to transit damage or just further failing in QC?

A surprising statistic!

Seen a few over the years. A silver HDF car near Woking over a decade ago. Couple at shows. Andys Lark GTR and the black long tail car. Which sort of proves your point that most UK cars are GTRs

So returning to questions.

What's the WORST reaction the car has ever received?

Probably mine when I realised he’d painted over that lovely bright blue to cover it with the dark blue and white stripe!

Have you heard much from/about Ron recently? Has he started his rumoured underground garage (complete with turntable) yet?

Also, with your relationship with the workshop, does one send Christmas cards/hampers? or arrange a visit?
I have heard nothing about Ron for some time.
Back when it was McLaren Cars Ltd and their only road car was the F1, they used to send out Christmas cards (my car was in the cover photo one year). I am not sure when they stopped doing that, I think it was around 2013.

Random question flemke: which model McLarens have you owned and which do you still own? Also, the ones you’ve since sold, why was that? I understand a change of personal circumstances (which is a more than good enough explanation) led to the sale of your Senna, and I recall (but can’t remember the reason you gave) that you sold your P1 but what about any others? I assume for most of your McLaren purchases you had to commit to buy before having the opportunity to drive that particular model so I suppose it could easily be that perhaps it didn’t live up to expectation when you took delivery?

Not quite either.
The first problem originated in the factory's making an error in the spec. It then took them six months to supply the correct part (which was a normal factory option, not some bespoke thing that took six months to recreate).
After the car got to the States, the US dealer saw that a "recall" item (IIRC, it was one set of rear control arms) had not been remedied by the UK dealer. The UK dealer's excuse was that the recall had not been issued until after they had done the PDI when they first received the car and therefore had "slipped through the net". I thought that was a rather flimsy excuse, insofar as the car had been at the UK dealer for the whole six months and during that period had been unavailable to me because of the factory mistake; it should have been properly checked over when they released it to me.
Anyhow, it took the US dealer a bit of time to sort out the recall parts, plus to fix a few scratches which may have been caused by the UK dealer or possibly in transit - I'm not sure which. I was not going to be driving it during those ensuing months, so I told the US dealer to give priority to other clients who had a more urgent need to get their cars on the road.

Thank you, appreciate it.

I wonder if he has become "he who shan't be named" around the corridors of McLaren, or if he still is talked about (in a fond or otherwise) by the people who knew him.

I think Flemke shares more than enough detail of his private life. The circumstances around the Senna aren't hard to piece together. For someone to question his reasons for selling and accuse him of profiteering feels a bit off. It would seem they've not read these threads or just want to take a pop. Ironically, he's arguably well positioned to be a flipper but doesn't choose to engage in it.
I think he is a big enough boy to be able reply to an observation without others stepping in...which he actually did.

Rather strange to be fair...threads like this and toomanycars...people seem to get a bit confused about the contributor as being their long lost friend or such and make cringey posts, and that any poster whom asks a question or makes an observation that is not gushing gets pounced on.

I made my observation based on someone posting a pic of his Senna for sale and then relating it to when i tuned out of this thread a few years back when Flemke was rather upset and made a long series of posts regards the 675LT being offered as a spider after he bought a coupe. Both limited build cars.

So my simple observation was that you cannot be upset about a further run of a limited run car that he purchased ( albeit a spider apposed to coupe ) so more McLaren fans whom unfortunately were not high enough in the pecking order to receive an original allocation can finally get their hands on one to their spec, to further down the line yet again be offered another limited edition car and to offer for sale after 65miles....you cannot have your cake and eat it...thats all.

As i mentioned, it was not a dig or having a go, it was an observation to which a comprehensive reply was given, which was appreciated, but i still kinda see it my way also.
