While you're here, Flemke. Any thoughts on the FIA/Ferrari settlement?

Ever since the travesty of governance perpetrated by Max von Mosley in 2007, it has been difficult for me to sustain much interest in F1. I am looking forward to the cost-cap, which I have long advocated, to redress some, but alas nowhere near all, of the structural unfairness at the supposed top level of the sport.
I have tried to follow what lay behind that FIA/Ferrari settlement, but it seems that nobody, apart from a few insiders, actually knows. At the same time, I don't really care whether Ferrari did or did not break the rules. If McLaren do well this year, I shall be happy. If Mercedes fail to win at least two races, I shall be happy. If Williams have a better season, I shall be happy. If those obnoxious pink cars are withdrawn from every race, or at least re-painted in a proper colour, I shall be happy. Beyond that, I expect mostly to be fighting to stay awake.
As Samuel Johnson said of getting married for a second time, watching Formula One has become a triumph of hope over experience.

An oddball question, but I don't know if it has been discussed: Flemke, what are your feelings towards comfy barges like Bentleys and Rolls-Royce? Modern or classic.

I think this thread is in danger of mutating away from F1 talk into

"Ask a wealthy car guy what he thinks of...."

I'm not saying Flemkes opinion isn't valid, but owning an F1 doesn't make it anymore valid than anyone else when it comes to another make/model of car. laugh Similarly talk of the Formula 1 season again seeks to imply he's anything other than a customer to McLaren. It's unlikely they will be entrusting him with inside secrets. biggrin

Id suggest limiting talk to the F1 and perhaps his beloved Audi A2 daily (spit! biggrin )

Perhaps there's a need for another thread for the various PH collectors to poston "toomanycars" "Flemke" "Andy74b" etc

I can see how it might appear that way but I ask due to Flemke's consistent, comprehensive answers which he provides. Ordinarily he provides an interesting take on things. thumbup

Modern or classic? I guess a modern way to perform a classic function. I normally prefer driving to being a passenger, so trying to get around in something so long, wide and heavy is not fun. For Autobahn-type conditions they're fine - better than sports cars which bounce around too much.

IMO the best part of this thread is that we can discuss whatever we like. I think the fact that I know nothing about pretty much everything has been plain to all for some time. wobble

Isn't this Flemke's virtual drop-in clinic? That's clearly a rhetorical question, as we all know the answer.

Flemke, do you wear driving shoes in the F1?

biggrin

Those or what I think are called deck shoes, which are what I usually wear.

Fine! laugh

Where do you sit on house design. (in the UK at least)

Contemporary

OR

Traditional

And to keep it semi relevant. Which does the F1 look better outside?

As someone who understands colours, how they interact with each other and light, and has spent a decent amount of time in the UK. I always had in my mind that you must understand basic sartorial requirements.

My apologises tongue out

EDIT TO ADD

On a slightly random note, did you know someone made a model of your car?

Yeah, the contemporary one in the picture looks like one very close to Esher but not in Esher that I was thinking of... so possibly not the same one.

I picked up on someone building a model F1 some time ago - probably on here. I looked at his website and the lengths he was going to to create the perfect 1/32 or 1/24 scale model were insane! He mentioned Flemke's car and was using various pictures of it to 'adjust' his model. Are these pictures of the final thing? Can someone point us to the website? Maybe he has built an example of every McLaren that was in the Flemke collection. Having said that, from what I remember, it would have taken longer than McLaren did to build them :-)
