RE: Aston Martin Lagonda (sort of) revealed
Discussion
Interesting. Seems to be splitting opinion.
Personally, I think it looks great, and as an earlier poster said, it's nice to see something different from Aston; something that's not derivative of the DB9. Ahhh, the DB9. The 'footballer's express'! There's a few around where I live, and they all belong to........... footballers! In the drive of a cliched pillared portico 'mansion', next to the obligatory Range Rover, and the orange wife. Lovely stuff!
Not really sure what's going on with this though. They've obviously invested a load of time and money coming up with this. Why? To export a handful to the desert? Not really sure that adds up. Also, in spite of some tricky times, backruptcy, models in production for far too long due to necessity, and worst of all 'Ford', Aston has managed to maintain a very strong, desirable image. And then there's the historic, evocative, and great sounding name, 'Lagonda'. AND what looks like a proper, timeless design.
Not that I'm in the market, but I think they could have been on to a winner with this. It could have done for the company, what the William Towns version did, all those years ago.

Hmmm ..... not sure about that. Where are the curves? Seems to be harking back to the 80s.
And where's the AM grille? Looks more like a pastiche of the Mazda MX6.
If this is the design direction we can expect from Aston for the DB9 replacement then I don't see a rosy future.
It is badged a LAGONDA, not an Aston Martin, hence no Aston signature grille. And where's the AM grille? Looks more like a pastiche of the Mazda MX6.

I like it, the fact someone has actually styled it as opposed to taking a tracing of a DB9 and stretching it, body kitting it, or massaging the shape around 4 doors is IMO a big +
Don't get me wrong I really liked the DB9 when it came out and it's still a very nice design but having every other model in the range looking like it's near identical twin lacks imagination IMO
I much prefer this to the Rapide

I think this is great. I guess part of me is just happy to see something come from Aston that doesn't look like a DB9!
True, the look that started with the DB7 is looking pretty tired these days IMO. I loved the vantage muscle car look (V8 V550/600- aston must have the silliest lineup/naming system of any car maker), this is interesting and more aggressive but perhaps a tad too apologetic to be a muscle car.How It Is said:

Agree completely, looks very handsome indeed to my eye. Not too shouty, but certainly exclusive.Don't get me wrong I really liked the DB9 when it came out and it's still a very nice design but having every other model in the range looking like it's near identical twin lacks imagination IMO

WOW! The 'Bulldog' wasn't it? Saw it at one of the NEC Motor Shows, early '80s. Just a one-off test vehicle if I remember rightly. Wasn't this the car that was supposed to do about 250mph in an age when the contemporary top-end exotica struggled to get to 190? Is it still around? Good to see the ugly little beastie again.I WISH said:

They will have a proper press launch, but everyone loves a mistake, which will have the car featuring in different press anyway.
Still have not seen the Lagonda driving about... might nip over to the Aston Showroom later!! (Also a mercedes dealer...AMG?!?!?)

Really not to my taste, does look like an abandoned Peugeot design that's had a good beating with the ugly stick.
It's vulgar enough, exclusive enough and (without doubt will be...) expensive enough that it'll no doubt sell out in seconds in the middle east.
The Lagonda of the 70's and 80's was hardly looker, but still manages to remain relevant today, so I'm sure it'll easily achieve whatever expectations AM have of it.
