They might have got away with it if then if they hadn't decided to sit at the lights prior to launching off revving the cars for all to see/film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P6kYLr5H9o

I was there, the Jag was cordoned off with police standing around it. Coupled with the video evidence I can't see any other logical outcome than him being charged with dangerous driving. Bearing in mind he didn't only lose control of his vehicle by driving stupidly on a public road, he did it whilst the streets were lined with people.
Question- Is it a public road though? Is it Intu's land i.e. classed as a private carpark - even though its an access road? Would be interested to see how it turns out. Are you sure hes a full RAF pilot? Or a trainee helicopter or on the fast jet programme? If hes in training it really wont look good. It shows lack of judgement.

Doesn't it fall off when he hits the post? Looks to be lying in the gutter in front of the car.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P6kYLr5H9o

I actually doubt that any action will be taken against him, but to me this is exactly what dangerous driving laws were made for.

So were these people actually involved in the Gumball or just people that had come to spectate and show off to the crowds? Either way it doesn't look good for the Gumball getting permission to be there again next time.
I can't believe the stupidity of these people, it is so busy around the Trafford Centre at the best of times on a weekend, with shoppers etc, that they would even attempt that sort of driving is beggars belief!

Don't suppose it'll change anything regards the whole leasing situation (if true). Drivers don't tend to be the most considerate of rental cars as a rule, so the difference between some lemon mullering a clutch and driving into a post due to lack of talent isn't that great. That, and the fact that these people never seem to get their due comeuppance.

Yep. I like how they remove the rear one by the time it gets on the tow truck. Gate > horse. are wages that good in the infantry that a 22 year old can afford a 80k car (albeit with a huge discount)
Hope he can fly a plane better than he can drive a powerful car
I love cars as much as everyone on here but what a complete bunch of merchant bankers, it only takes one person to be hit and injured (or worse) and the public perception of these bellends and the cars they drive will change for ever, especially for us people who drive their nice cars normally on public roads.

To be fair to the guy, and he is a massive tosspot for being involved at all, but people have been binning cars whilst showing off since time immemorial - so he's not really special. He's young, lacks experience, it's a powerful RWD and he's trying to show off. If it wasn't there it would've been somewhere else when there was an audience or someone who "challenged his masculinity".
Which all begs the question with this, and the supercar knob jockeys in London and the sycophants that shadow them with cameras, is that which came first - the chicken or the egg?

I dont think I would be hanging round on the pavement whilst that went on, so lucky nobody got hurt.
I hope the Pilot chap just gets a bking and an Aygo for a while, would be a shame for him to lose his job over that.
I really didn't like the way the plates were removed of the Merc, went from being an honest accident whilst pratting about to something more sinister, that is quite devious, someone who does that would probably quite happily wreck your car or leave you on the floor injured as long as they can get away.
When you do stuff like that, especially if not used to it, this is a possible outcome, if you still feel you have to against all good sense, when it goes wrong, get out and take a bow, its the only way.
I know these were just playing to the crowd and not gumballers but I think the whole event is a bit crass and played out anyway, now you have muppets in rented cars trying to join in, managing to be even less professional than the actual participants.
