Saw two of these on the M40 yesterday morning - absolutely awful. After the good job Land Rover have done on the design of the Evoque, RR and RRS, they've well and truly ballsed this design up.

It looks like a Chinese rip-off of the current RRS. A shame because the outgoing Discovery, to my eyes, looks purposeful and attractive in a utilitarian way.

The Land Rover Sport isn't bad looking, but it's not exactly something to get excited about, either. PH-worthy? Not in my book. I'm sure I'll be seeing ship-loads of them on the roads and in the parking lots of America soon enough. On the other hand, this is definitely something to get excited about!

You're aware this is a replacement for the dumpy old Freelander, aren't you? FF Discovery replacement comes n 2016.

rofl Even those paid to promote the cars don't understand Land Rover's model range.

"Sad really but a reflection of the times we live in. I know, I know, I shouldn't advocate speeding and all that. But when a gentleman in a Lamborghini meets a gentleman in a Ferrari on the road to Paris and both are so cowed by paranoia there's not even a cheeky little squirt up the road there's something badly wrong with the world. I can't help but think a couple of decades ago it'd have been loafers to the carpet and last one to lunch pays the bill. Ho hum."

Amen to that!!
Couldn't agree more. The usual suspects really are sucking all the life out of...life. shoot

I was expecting a vid of the aforementioned ditch test - would make a change from more boring smoking tyres.

Can anyone explain to me why we don't have a British motor show anymore ?
Surely given the sheer number of vehicles produced on the isle, variety of marques and specialist engineering/manufacturing it makes sense.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (I had no idea but turns out she's posh, skinny, British and in town because it's Paris fashion week)...

I'd be happy with more boutique style shows like Goodwood.

With Geneva and Paris/Berlin, there's no point in having yet another experience that would pretty much be the same.

Maybe a British engineering and motorsport show is what you're after.

Clearly the manufacturers don't see any point.

I recall the last Excel motorshow I went to - A lot of the big manufacturers didn't even bother turning up.

A shame, though, as a good motorshow is a great day out.

No, there are none I can find. Perhaps as an alternative to the ice bucket challenge, we should nominate Dan Trent to do this test - with cameras running. Perhaps it will help PH staffers take Land Rovers more seriously. They also do a test with the vehicle left in 600mm of water with the doors open for half an hour and then send some poor sod in to start it. Perhaps we should nominate Matt Bird for this as he is well experienced with driving the Caterham in all weathers.

I don't want to pop JLRs (99)balloons, but every car manufacturer does extreme tests like this, in fact, they have to to validate things like wheel security and airbag operation etc.

Here's VW doing it way back in the 1990's to an innocent Golf!

VW trash the knackers off a Golf

^^^Gets good at 2.33 in!

and

lets see if we can get the airbags to go off

;-)

I'll put a word in and see if I can get the footage to share with the PH masses. It's not pretty, I'll warn you of that. After 90 minutes of immersion the repeated crack of alloy against concrete ditch certainly woke us all up!
