Hi i have seen a ford puma 1.7 im quite interested in just as a winter car, has full service history n looks a clean car. It has done 142,000 miles n the seller has told me it has a slight misfire, car is fine when cold but when warms up it starts to misfire slightly....

Can anyone tell me what that could be and would it be costly?

Thanks

Unless he is giving the car away why not buy one that's running right?

Could be a number of things, thinking MAF could be high on the list. Best to get a code reader and see what codes it's throwing.

Could be anything, have you read obd trouble codes yet? Most likely to be on the ignition side - plugs, HT leads, coil pack would be the obvious things to try first. After that you're looking at sensors and wiring which could be more difficult to narrow down. If you had a compression tester wouldn't do any harm to to a test on an engine of that mileage.

Coil pack is notorious on these. Get a genuine ford replacement one, not a pattern one.

Wont be head gasket will it? I used to have a clio 2.0 172 what did what this puma is doing kind of and it turned out to be headgasket

Coil pack would be my first choice to be honest. They do seem to be a common fault on these engines.

I've just bought one for £200 with the exact same problem, lambda sensor replaced and it was sorted
