I run it with a silencer bung in it day to day and it's perfectly fine. It's very rare that it comes out but when it does it can be quite good fun.

I agree. A bit like everything else these days, it is being made easier and more accessible to do something that once took skill or hard work to achieve. Like auto blip on downshift which was a skill I learnt to do manually via heel and toe. Or the crack and pop of an exhaust during a hard workout resulting from the correct and sometimes random combination of heat/fuel/driving conditions which I treated as reward for my skill. In my book and in the case of this Cayman GTS, immediate gratification equals reduction of experience and enjoyment.
All this is doing is diluting the art and skill of driving and as enthusiasts is something we should be fundamentally against.

I disagree with that as anyone who wants the real thing can easily find it and allowing posers to make a load of noise in their attempt to find like minded companionship doesn't diminish those opportunities. You just wouldn't want to be one of them or have them in your circle of friends Youre wrong

if you dont want the noise dont press the button. A one minute clip of you mincing up to waitrose for a latte does not seem to me to be wholly representative of what sound the car makes.

I think the fuelling on lift/trailing throttles helps make it more/less noticeable though.
In the end this is what you get for changing throttle position so often when you could just drive at a constant throttle position in a higher gear.

OK you have to bait it into doing it but it's easy once you find the 'biting' point on a trailing throttle.
All Porsche have done is taken away lots of silencing with flaps, and then tuned the flaps to be wide open at opportune times.
In the end if you don't like it, seal up your flaps. Usually they're just a vacuum feed to crimp, T off, or disconnect the vacuum control solenoid. Not hard for anyone even partially into having cars the way they want them.

The Syvecs supports 8 different engine maps selectable by a rotary switch in the cockpit. I only added the 'pops & bangs' map for a laugh because there was a spare slot for it. On another slot there is an 'extended range' map that leans the engine right out for motorway cruising. You'll probably think that is 'bent' / gay too.

Presumably steering feel wll be the next minor irritation!
Since my B7 RS4 I rate sound as one of the most important factors in car choice.
As a result it was replaced by a 5.0 XKR. I live in central London where I seldom get above 20 mph these days due to the blight of the speed hump. The only fun I have is going up and down throught the gear box trying to make as many crackles and farts as I can. Long live the V8

I love cars that sound like this, however I only like it when I think the car is worthy of a sound like that. For example, the Boxster is a sportscar - not a supercar, it almost seems like its trying to 'play with the big kids'. I won't lie, pretty much the whole way through that video, I had goosebumps - but when I remembered that it was a Boxster, it just didn't seem cool. Another example is cars like the BMW M3 and Merc C63 AMG have huge engines, and sound great - but they aren't supercars, look at them, they are executive saloon cars! It really bugs me when people think that this entitles them to take their Audi RS6 Avant to a supercar meet, I'm sorry, its just not in the same league as a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Same with the Boxster, again, it rivals Audi TTs and Mercedes SLKs, not supercars. I think its time some of these car brands focused on their market rather than trying to make the car make pops and bangs, and leave that to the true rebels like TVRs and Lamborghinis. It just doesn't suit them.
I saw/heard an F-Type giving it some beans on a roundabout, on and off the throttle, and my first thought after ‘Lovely car!’ was ‘How on earth did Jag get that past the noise emissions laws?’ Pops and crackles galore – it actually sounded like it was badly tuned. Next thought was – ‘Hmm – a bit immature’.
Not for me I must admit – I prefer stealth mode now. (I even modified the exhaust on my KTM bike to make it quieter.) One can surreptitiously ‘make progress’ without having a headache at the journey end.
I do like being able to determine what engine is in a car from the note though – a nice V8 burble, a 5 cylinder warble, or a flat-four boxer beat for example – it just doesn’t have to be LOUD (or contrived).
