Please stop using the word skids when you are referring to the driven wheels over-rotating.
Skids and slides refer to wheels being under-rotated relative to the velocity of the vehicle.
You comment is to show excess power, so skids or slides, is the wrong terminology. Blame Chris Harris who seems to have led unsuspecting journo's down the wrong path.
Calibration is another journo phrase that is over used at the moment and will no doubt die a death.

Do i want a 911?...Lol!! After listening to this AMG, then going back to listen to the GT3rs or rs4.0 or just the new GT3, thats not even a question to ask... I will give both my nuts to have anyone of the GT3's listed above anytime, mind you the AMG will appeal to those who don't appreciate the Porcker, muscle or Hot Rod car sound(Merc, Audi) vs screaming race bred engine(Porsche, BMW M's).
Whereas I'd have the Merc. And I say that as a GT3 owner It's a fine looking thing and that is a worthy write up. I have a suspicion that if I had the folding or the resources to feed the finance I would be after one its predecessors, have a real soft spot for the SLS and I wonder if values will firm up with the arrival of its slightly littler brother.

I'll fall into the bucket of people who will need to see this in person (kicking myself for not driving down to Monterey as I live only a couple of hours away) as the looks haven't done anything for me thus far. I think the front is just "this" much too long. I'll still be looking more toward a 911 as that's an itch I have yet to scratch.

Crikey, bet you're fun on a night out Skids and slides refer to wheels being under-rotated relative to the velocity of the vehicle.

Not sure about the looks side on - it looks like a 911 that has its nose pulled.
Was thinking exactly the same thing. Although I'm no fan particularly of the way the Porsche looks the looks of these does nothing for me very reminiscent of the long nose that accompanies itself to the z4.Gandahar said:

F**k me... that's what you get out of this article?Skids and slides refer to wheels being under-rotated relative to the velocity of the vehicle.

I like the look of it, but i won't be removing the wallet out my back pocket without it going back to back with a facelift Porsche 991.
Interesting to read about the turbo engine being mapped for a progressive delivery. I think the key thing is that the 911 Turbo and GTR are 4wd, so can accept a huge boost spike, whereas in an FR car the driver needs to be able to feed in the power gradually, so the torque needs to rise gradually with revs. Interestingly a low rpm torque peak doesn't preclude this, rather a torque plateau that starts low down means that in most real world cases, the torque is constant regardless of engine speed, because you are already on the plateau, which makes it much easier to judge how much the rear wheels can take.
The GT sounds great, a real front engine, rear drive driver's car, I hope they sell loads so they become cheap in ten years time☺

I got to sit in one of these recently and it's a pretty special place to spend time. Not sure about long distance comfort - I'll have to try it Also heard it fire up, but for me the pops and bangs were a little too 'obvious'. Like you knew it was programmed in to the ECU. I mean, it was static!
I'm just about to be in a position to buy a car like this and it's an interesting market.
The GT seems more exclusive/different than the competition; the 991 more developed and price competitive and the Jaguar, more British.
Then you have the Cayman GTS as an absolute bargain.
It's a great time to be buying a car.

Encasing the exhaust manifold+turbo within the block means you can't bolt on bigger turbos for a start. This is a big challenge for tuners. With the VR38, Nissan made the turbos and manifolds one unit, meaning that you had to get custom manifolds for you bigger turbos, but it was not such a challenge, just an inconvenience. This however is basically saying two things; one - "we don't want to make tuning this thing too easy - in fact we don't want you to be able to reasonably do that at all", and two - "you can't even turn up the boost and remap this thing because thanks to our genius approach, intake temps will probably already be approaching those found on the surface of Mercury during Perihermion and you will melt ze pistons und vee vill laugh at you hahahaha."
Edit - unless keeping the turbos in the block reduces heat soak into the inlet after the intercooler, thereby totally negating point two of my "i think I'm smarter than AMG" diatribe. It was fun to type anyway and I'm still at work and want to go home/beer.

Whereas I'd have the Merc. And I say that as a GT3 owner Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
