... that begs the question 'how hard can a Mercedes be to live with'? We're not exactly talking Morgan/Caterham levels of discomfort, are we?
It just puzzles me... for the day to day stuff, just about any modern mainstream car is a perfectly pleasurable and refined place to be in, I don't feel there's any real differentiator there unless you're talking about cheap US stuff with dashboards and door panels made out of recycled bin liners... My virtual £100K would go to the car that feels the most special thanksverymuch...
Agreed, though "easier to live with" could mean any number of things. The back seats for example, storage space, ground clearance, width, mpg, consumables, all-round visibility, options like parking sensors,...It just puzzles me... for the day to day stuff, just about any modern mainstream car is a perfectly pleasurable and refined place to be in, I don't feel there's any real differentiator there unless you're talking about cheap US stuff with dashboards and door panels made out of recycled bin liners... The MR2 is a perfectly comfortable car, but the complete lack of boot or storage space make it pretty hard to live with day to day.

I've put my money where my mouth is and gone for the AMG instead.
911's (excluding GT2/3) just don't do it for me - even the Turbo to be honest.
The Mercedes (whilst slightly more expensive) looks infinitely better to me.
Mine's coming in red!
Wise choice. You'll end up getting the front of the AMG and the back of a 911 in one car - best of both worlds!911's (excluding GT2/3) just don't do it for me - even the Turbo to be honest.

They can't be bought anymore.
Really, why is that? Porsche solved that problem a while ago I thought?articulatedj said:
Since the rear seats don't do a whole lot of good, I can't see why I wouldn't just go for the Cayman GTS.
?? I have a 911 and I can only make it work in a 1 car household because it has rear seats - my 8 year old daughter fits perfectly in the back (they are pretty usless for adults though)Edited by Adam B on Wednesday 19th November 11:20
As a current 997 GTS owner, the 991 GTS doesn't really do it for me. That's mainly because even though they're no longer available, I'd always feel a bit disappointed it wasn't a GT3 given the list price comparison (although a properly spec'd GT3 even at list is surely more than 10% of a GTS?)
I love my 997, but don't mind admitting I find the V8V a far better looking car and same applies to the F Type. Unless the GT3 drops in the used market, which is unlikely, the F Type and AMG GT begin to look quite compelling, particularly in a years time on the used market.

Great looks and GTS badge is usually perfection, but the pricing is all wrong.
The GT3 at £100k is just too appealing..
BUT you cannot buy a new 991 GT3, they're not making anymore......The GT3 at £100k is just too appealing..
You can have one second hand for 40-50k more than the GTS
See what you've done Frankel.

We established the GT3 is no longer available. You can have one second hand for 40-50k more than the GTS

Point remains its list price was £100k (when you could buy) and the price of this is £91k.
I could not spend £91k on a car knowing that for less than 10% more I could have had a GT3 (a year ago when the order books were open).

By "we" I presume you mean I pointed it to you on the first page? Point remains its list price was £100k (when you could buy) and the price of this is £91k.

And people are still banging on about the price of a car you can't order anymore vs. the price of a car that wasn't available at the time you could.
With respect there is no point to your point, it makes no sense whatsoever and is in fact.....

A far better conclusion would have been - I'd be tempted to wait and see what the GT4 brings.
