I sold a very early lhd Beetle a few years ago, it was an absolute hoot to drive!
There was a fabulous black one racing at the Goodwood Members Meeting this year
I used to import them from Germany and Austria years ago, the exchange rate killed it though. I paid £1300 for a rust free 1967 Beetle, lovely thing! Worst was driving back a 1957 'Standard' Beetle. The Standard was a base model, crash gearbox, cable operated brakes and 30 bhp. That was fun on the Autobahn...There was a fabulous black one racing at the Goodwood Members Meeting this year

I've always hated the styling
Personal taste and all that, but for a 1940s design, with origins before then, I reckon they've stood the test of time pretty well. RobinBanks said:
I'm starting to dislike Beetles even more than I previously did. I've always hated the styling and I've never driven one (I've been a passenger in two) and that was enough to make me detest them.
Seeing so many photos is making my disdain for them stronger!
If you lived in the South I'd take you for a spin in mine. With 200bhp it's entertaining Seeing so many photos is making my disdain for them stronger!

That said, 200bhp might be enough to swing it
I've always hated Beetles too, but that comes from having driven the hateful pieces of crap.
And I do like that Audi 100 - friend's dad had one at school - 100 Avant Turbo, used it to tow his racing 944. At what seemed like race speeds...
Anyway, here's a Beetle...

Now, what colour would you like your 1986 E28 535i? Red...

...or, er, red...??

How about some brownness, Caddy style...

And what could go wrong on a 3k Maserati...??? One of these went past me on the weekend whilst I was out riding, and it did sound good...

They do look great in a crisp, minimalist way. Very timeless. I'd be interested to drive one too.

That seems a good buy to me, tidy up the bits and it's surely gonna climb in value in years to come. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...
Guy over the road from me has one and keeps it garaged all winter, doesn't stop it going to the body shop every summer for some rust treatment though real shame they are so badly affected by it.

These fetch really strong money.Great little cars, however there was quite a long period where they could be purchased for £8k, brand new, from the dealers.
My sister bought one at that price in 2009, and is still trucking around in it. Absolute bargain motoring, and it's been 100% reliable in the 60k miles she's done, and is still worth nearly 50% of what she paid!!!
