Just noticed it's a GL and not a Septre. Same interior trim, colour etc though unsure about the sunroof.

A much smarter car than the contemporary Cortina and Marina but outclassed by the MK2 Cavalier which it overlapped.

More seriously, good spot, That really isn't something you see every day, and never did in this country.

Now that's a nostalgic sight.

I think these are good looking cars. Quite a lot of Soviet cars were well styled.

It is a good spot. The few I have seen for sale here have generally been priced at a fair bit more than that.

It would have looked quite smart in 1957 but pretty dated by the time that example was built...

I quite like some of the Eastern Block stuff, they made some cool looking cars that we never saw or knew of.

Definitely - they made some very good looking cars over the years. Some fascinating oddities too.

Always liked the old Skoda's too, a Coupe would be better, but 48k on the clock isn't to be sniffed at biggrin

A MK1 Audi TT replica for the same sort of money as the genuine article:

If you'd ever seen one of those in the metal (plastic), you'd think so. They are like the ahem, child of a TT, a Daihatsu Copen and a Metro, where they took the worst bits of each.

I do like those - they give the impression of being quite well thought through. Are they an original design, or based on something else?

It does look kind of cool in a utility type of way , could be loosely based on the old NSU (Audi)

Renault 5s look so much cooler in the early iterations with simple styling and no bodykit, as does the Countach come to think of it.

An original design, although similar to the NSU - and arguably other rear engine cars of the era.

Not a licensed reworking like some of the Ladas and Polski Fiats, Peykans and so so on, if that's what you mean, and not a copy or rip-off of something else.

Its funny that there used to be several manufacturers using the rear engine -drive format , seems to have been an evolutionary dead end

I know someone that's sticking a turbocharged, air cooled Beetle engine in one of those. It will have over 300bhp easily. Funky little things!
