I grew up with late 1990s Volvos, and bought a V70R AWD in a fit of nostalgia a few years back.
It was awful - turns out that V70s of that era have electronics made of cheese, and the 4x4 systems lunch themselves. My friend had exactly the same experience with his XC70 of the same vintage.
So I'm hankering for the proven old tech of the 250 / V90 cars.
My mother's was a 1999 2.5D. Sold in 2011 with 128,000 miles (a lunched AC compressor and everything else working) and, per an MOT search, is still going with 221,000 miles, as of January. It was awful - turns out that V70s of that era have electronics made of cheese, and the 4x4 systems lunch themselves. I do get the 1990s Volvo thing...and a 3.0 V90 would be epic!

He mentions Pistonheads, anyone know who it is? Ratty 205 CJ - worth saving? Too expensive given the torn hood and scabby bodywork, even at £500?

This looks like good value for £1,950 and with 89k miles and the 2.8 engine: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
Another 2.8 BMW, in 3 series format and £45 more. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Like that - it's a good price for a decent 2.8. My dad (in his 60s) bought a Z3 recently and he's loving it. Good low mileage ones have gone up in value recently. 0a said:

What a good idea for a thread.
My mother had a Golf of about that age, but not the posh GLS - just the L, with a 1.3 litre engine. I don't have fond memories of it, but seeing this one does bring a certain feeling of nostalgia!
Well, maybe .... just maybe. We had 2 of these from nearly new: bubbles round the fuel filler, wheel arches especially front, getting shabby, oil from rocker cover gasket, weeping into alternator, brakes terrible with l.h.d. servo mount. Still nice to see one, but nostalgia a wonderful thingMy mother had a Golf of about that age, but not the posh GLS - just the L, with a 1.3 litre engine. Might just be nice with that lovely engine, but all sorts of ECU problems as they age, quite apart from damp from hood. ...and don't they look dated now? Also, battery in ( often damp) boot not a great featureEdited by Lester H on Sunday 24th July 19:19
