I like them, the later Excel is supposed to be a much better buy, some parts pinched off Toyota (gearbox, diff etc?) and a bit better finished - the most reliable Lotus? Used to a lot about below 5 grand, maybe less so nowadays.

WUFF

Possibly money pits though, achingly cool ones.
Notes plenty sub £5k ones
I had a good one a few years ago that someone has stuck a 300bhp V8 into a replacement spyder chassis.

Good fun but TBH it really did feel dated - though fine for a sunny weekend toy.

IIRC I sold it for around £4k - if they're on here... I'd happily buy it back for the same.

I think we've had this previously.
Might consider this or similar as a daily.
It has been for sale for a while.
Can anybody here shed any light on this particular car.

Yes, I think that has been on and off the market for quite a while.
I bought one with twice the mileage at half the price 6 months ago. A week later I drove it to Le Mans and have used it as a heavy use daily driver since. It is without doubt the best couple of grand I've ever spent, cracking car and very practical.

Me too. Good restoration project, stick in a slightly more modern version of the same engine (like the 2.3) and beef up the running gear a bit. Yum.

And a very clean, low mileage 850 R estate for £4995. I didn't know you could get these as Japanese import's

I assume it's AWD? E-bay is blocked at work.

I love the fact that Wikipedia refers to it as a compact executive car. Compact?

It's a 2wd and an Auto and not full leather. But it does look nice. There are quite a few V70Rs coming over from Japan now as well.

I ran a T5 last year. By modern standards they look tiny now.

There is that I suppose. My daily is off the road at the moment so I'm driving my Mk1 MX5 to work. It was sandwiched between two Audi Q5s in the car park yesterday and looked absolutely tiny. I'd love to see what a Caterham would look like in the same scenario.

I don't know about the 850 era Volvo's, came across one earlier on in the year that still looked big even by modern standards (it still made me go Bugger me, that's big!). Sticking to that I parked up my Rover 200 Coupe (Tomcat) next to a current gen Micra when visiting my Mother and the damn thing dwarfed the Rover (shorter, though not by much, but the shear bulk of the thing in comparison...).

It's quite surprising when you see an Elan v MX5

That's a bigger difference than you'd think isn't it.
