Thanks both, very helpful beer

Maybe that's not the one then! Might have to get back to the 106 classifieds, which is where I started (don't know how I got to mx-5's!!)

For 106s you'll know about rear beams, inner front arch rust, rear arch rust at the boot floor. cooking coil packs on the 16v ones.

I do want a 106 gti or a S1 rallye but i think my wife would kill me.

Yep, indeed I do! (less so the coil packs though - just GTi then I assume)

Nice! I was very tempted myself. Is it as nice as it looked in the pictures?

Could they have ever done a better ad than this?

Ha - I still own that copy of Autocar - along with roughly all the others 4 years after it and many before!

That GS and Rapide are fabulous.
I assume it was called a rapide due to the depreciation.

We bought a flame red morris marina brand new as a P reg from Wadham Stringer near the Trent in Nottingham so this is a massive nostalgiafest for me.
Came home from the dealers with lots of Morris/BL swirl stickers as an 8 year old.
Still looking for that elusive (enjoying the search) dadwagon classic, fairly broke until Christmas but this is really whetting me whistle smile

Ill be sad when this thread ends cry

I think you'll be ok - I reckon this thread can last indefinitely (well, as long as there are interesting cars for sale under £5k, and that could be a while yet)

lol, suspect it is 1.3 litre.
still, all alloy engine that pretty much wrapped up the 1.3 class in rallies for yonks.

Yes 1.3. Would have been highly entertaining with 130bhp. IIRC Fiat TCs were a possible transplant.
I had a cabrio in Rowan Red (or orange). A fair few were converted by a UK company.
Also see the fabulous tall, spindly gearlever. Brute force no, fingertips yes,

Jet
