Ford Modular V8 - it can't be a bad engine if Koenigsegg also used before developing its own V8.
I have the 2-valve version (vs. the 4-valve of that Rover) which produces 235 hp, or 51 hp/per liter.
It is tuned for low-down torque which is enough for everyday motoring - I wanted the V8 for its sound in the first place. And this engine is supposed to be very durable as well... so far I'm pretty pleased with the laid-back 'old-schoolness' of the package!
Good engines from a reliability point of view. Bolt on a $4000 supercharger and you get 420bhp. At least that's what my Mustang was supposed to produce. Never bothered RRing it but it was fast enough.I have the 2-valve version (vs. the 4-valve of that Rover) which produces 235 hp, or 51 hp/per liter.

Something tells me that would need some major bravery to take a plunge on The electronics in this are BMW and E39 era so similar electrical problems carry over.

No....I'm sure they were £90K at least to actually get then because there was such a waiting list.
I had a neighbour in Glasgow just before we moved to Shropshire when they first came out. He wanted an SL55 and had £125K (IIRC) ready to pay for one...but such was the waiting list he couldn't have one. He was only considered for the SL55 if he agreed to take an SL500 first which should have been £90K but he had to agree to take that first for over £100K just to be in line for an SL55.
To actually get an SL55 was well, well over £100K.
In fact, I remember that SL500 definitely cost my neighbour £90K because he asked me to drive him to Glasgow Airport one day in and bring it back to his house. It was only a couple of junctions up the M8 but I remember being absolutely st-scared driving it. I'd never driven anything so valuable. Still haven't actually......
£89k list for the SL55. So not only paying £90k for a car but paying £90k for a £70k car! I would do neither and will continue to grin smugly every time I drive my 15k SL55 I had a neighbour in Glasgow just before we moved to Shropshire when they first came out. Ben
With extras £90k doesn't seem unreasonable.

And the stupid thing is that it's not easy to swap out for something better thanks to the decision to create a non-standard headunit shape.
Well, you could swap it out for a COMAND unit. Personally I quite like it. It has the virtue of simplicity and the telephone keypad is useful.Anyway, here is a double DIN adapter plate if you wanted to fit a fruit machine from Alpine: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-SL-R230-Car-Ste... and here http://caraudiosecurity.com/ct23mb11-mercedes-benz...

Been using the SL quite a bit today, no road trip up the west coast or to the south of France, more B&Q and Sainsbury's!
Getting to know the car, one thing I noticed today for the first time and can't quite believe I never noticed when I looked at the car was the stereo has no light whatsoever! Annoying but don't imagine it's a difficult fix. Absolutely love the thing!...

This looks tidy - http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=...
For me, the E32 is the best looking 7 Series by a country mile. I'd go as far as to say it is one of the best looking BMWs. Edited by olly22n on Wednesday 4th March 21:45

Car looks great. Needs gingers, though.Getting to know the car, one thing I noticed today for the first time and can't quite believe I never noticed when I looked at the car was the stereo has no light whatsoever! Annoying but don't imagine it's a difficult fix. Absolutely love the thing!...
Stereo lighting. I wonder if it needs a feed from terminal 58 (lights on) to know to light up. An auto electrician would pick this up either from the climate controls bulb or the little cubby bulb ahead of the gearbox.
I am always surprised that people sell cars like this; the guy has had it 18 years . Im not that sentimental really, but surely that kind of service and the fact its only worth a couple of k means it has earned it a place in your driveway until it dies / is worth more as it becomes a classic?

I have a good auto electrical place not far from me so might pop along tomorrow.
Re the gingers, definatley, needs the front and side doing, also the grill needs putting back to standard. Keeping an eye on e-bay and the like for these.

Fruit machines aren't the only options.

Seems a bit odd, doesn't it? Maybe he's retiring and moving abroad? Hopefully there's not some soul-less eurobox sitting on the drive pushing it out.http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C590701
