Thing with modern cars is they have zero substance.

The cosworth, you pop the bonnet and get actual metal parts! That cosworth can cover, plenum, turbo on display.

Modern ltd editions are nothing more than badges, fake vents and plastic engine covers with badges to tell you what they are. Pull the cover off a new FRS and ask people what it is... open a cosworth bonnet and even my GF knows it’s a cosworth.

Anyone speculating with modern RS fords must be barmy. When people wake up to the fact modern cars have no real substance to back up the badge they’ll be as worthless as the base model they look like when you remove the plastic engine cover.

This is happening everywhere now, same thing with watches IMO too. Brands making things look like the old models and charging crazy amounts yet those of us with the old models just see a cheap, nasty version without the detail that makes them so great. Some just see the badge.
People would have been saying the same thing about Cosworths 30 years ago when comparing to performance Fords of the 60’s.

Probably - things were better when i was a lad, however the Sierras had and engine you could look at, i dislike a plastic engine cover, but it is preferable to a mass or wires and hoses, the current megane rs engine bay looks a mess,

Sorry but this just isn't true - the Sierra Cosworth was seen as something special and quite distinct right from its launch .

It was launched in 1986. How can any sort of comparison be made to the Ford RS’ of today?

Christ £12k for something that would usually sell for half that. Amazing what some wet look tyre spray does to a valuation

People are doing exactly that by speculating a huge value because of a Cosworth or other RS.

£80k for a ‘rare’ orange Ford Focus with plastic and fakery just because it has an RS badge.

Not saying it's worth £80k today but factually it is rare as they only made 50. Plus it does have Mountune upgrades which are genuine performance upgrades.

It didn't actually cost much more than a normal RS but you had to be very friendly with Ford to get one - wasn't it one per UK dealer or something?

One of 35 apparently. Although a nice one sold for £10k at some point - can’t see when.

But don’t you find it all a bit contrived?

Classic cars of value have got there from going through a process. They’re sought after, drop like a stone, nearly all get written off/stolen etc then nostalgia hits people and the price goes up. They’re rare because they’re survivors and have some substance to them and can be repaired probably for decades to come.

A new focus is given a label as rare by painting it orange it wears an RS badge gets a huge price and it’s an investment. I just don’t see how people fall for it.

It’s just like Rolex. An old submariner survivor has made the demand for new what they are and this false idea the new ones will be a good investment when in reality it’ll all fall apart when people realise there’s 20 million mint in box Rolexes as investments as opposed to the odd old school one that’s still got its box n papers!

Absolutely. They also had the Red Edition.

Maybe Ford thought that's what people wanted but the MK3 never really got the love they expected.

I really like this, but not at nine grand for one shiny picture and a couple from a car meet!

Blue oval fans blind love for some of their cars is beyond me.
I’ve driven a Sierra Cosworth and owned a S1 Escort RS Turbo and they were both absolutely ste.

I’d imagine an EsCos would be a nicer thing to drive, but the Mk3 Escorts are genuinely dreadful.
How anyone in their right mind could stump up £15/20/25k for one will always be beyond me.
I have to be honest, it is probably something to do with a my age, but I love the 1970s/80s Fords, when I see them I get all nostalgic, I had one or two, (I nearly bought a freshly restored S1 RS turbo about 15/20 years ago for £5K), then think how I always wanted one, and then I look at the price and think HOW MUCH, are you on drugs???

I recall how much time and effort I spent keeping them immaculate, couldn't drive it in the rain due to how easily they rusted, and how I still had my fingers crossed every time it went for an MOT. I can understand why a GT40 is valuable, it is like a work of art/history, it can hold its own in a museum. I cannot understand why people would pay that unless they are counting on the price going up significantly, that is bubble thinking and will only end up one way, and that is a conversation with a police officer, where they ask "is there is anyone who would want to burndown the garage with both your classics in it? and hasn't the value on theses fallen significantly as the classic car bubble bursts?

From the same seller as the AMG, this is marked as 'sold'. £300,000? Really? For a Subaru?

If it was 2003 and that was an ex demo I still wouldn't pay £9k for it.
