I like the look of the XJR however my knowledge of Jag's is pretty poor therefore I struggle to understand how a 2007 model with 35k miles commands £25k whilst a 2006 model with 49k miles commands £10k.

It's a significant difference in price. I must be missing something.

My mate just picked up a 2003 Jag XJR for £3,800... Go figure.
Wow!

"Offers invited" apparently. How about a more realistic offer of £1995.00 ?

Bloody hell.

"world record sold for £50k with circa 5k miles last year" making this one a snip at £40k, who actually pays this kind of money?

Surely by now the world an their dog have cottoned onto 4* Classics and their often bonkers pricing.

Apologies for going off on a tangent...

who was the trader that stuck extra badges on everything? eg he'd be selling a BMW 5 series V8, and he'll have stuck loads of extra V8 stickers on the boot and the front wings and in the engine bay. I think he may also have advertised with letters after his name, Arthur Daley B.Eng, MIMechE.

Is he still on the go?

Well I'm sold.

Aston Martin anything...

DB4-6 are off the chart.

V8's were priced right (for a more crappily built XJ-S with Capri 2.8i dynamics) at about £30k-£40k based on rarity and looks but to be topping out at near £100k is frigging nuts.

They are rare and pretty in a brutish way but having driven lots and also having owned XJ-S' and BMW 635CSi's I can assure you you are missing nothing with the cheaper GT cars.

Manual Vantages are an exception, but they are silly (like house price) money now. (and not a crap house at that!)

DB7's look at the XKR & late XJ-S'. Now read a road test from 1996.

Worth double for the rarity & badge... Probably.
Worth 3 times for the badge? Not when 90% of it is Jaguar anyway, and was nailed together by TWR.

Still look cheap versus Ferraris of the same era and are rarer.

That said, I just traded my DBS for a newer model mainly because it had gone up so much.

Classic dealers are not all laughing all the way to the bank, they only work on the margin of the commodity, they have to pay higher prices for new stock. Take a nice newish car and bolt a load of fibreglass bumpers and skirts on it then wrap it, paint the wheels black, the roof silver hey presto 30 k margin from nowhere

Found him, although he appears finally to have run out of halfords badges.

Also for less than half that price.

It must be worth their while to try and bump up values that they can afford to advertise it for years now.

All of Hollybrook's stock is way, way over priced, always has been.
