If I were a well off Gentleman worth seven figures in the bank, I'd have that in a heartbeat.

I just don't get it - I don't care how good or unique a car is I wouldn't pay that much for it however much money I had! Maybe I'm a heathen, as I can't see any 'added value' in antiques, a replica would be good for me and may not fall apart due to old age rolleyes

Well there are mainly three types of person who buys a car.
(1) the buyer driven by need (ie. needs a car in order to conduct daily life and/or business)
(2) the buyer driven by desire to drive
(3) the buyer driven by desire to own

I fall in to categories 1 and 2 and I don't really understand the mindset of people in category 3.
I can't fathom out what pleasure there is in just looking at something, day in, day out, knowing that you'd be throwing money in the bin if you dared to put any mileage on it or risk damage out in the real world.

Same with paintings and other forms of 'art'. Once you've looked at it a few times the pleasure is spent, surely?

I had a conversation with the finance chap at a high end dealer today. He wanted to lend me money at a very attractive rate.

He could lend for other things too like wine. He mentioned a client who'd bought a huge amount of wine and valuable cars on credit. He wasn't interested in either. Doesn't drink wine and only wants a Range Rover. But wine and cars are free from capital gains so that is his current investment vehicle of choice.

Saw this on autotrader and had to Google their own site to double check. It's about 1.5-2k too high?

Not quite seriously overpriced, but £560 (and rising) for the rustiest Montego I've ever seen:

It's demented if you think of it as an iQ, but actually the depreciation on the Cygnet is pretty steady, in fact as a percentage the iQ is a much more stupid proposition.

That should be in the eBay ringer car thread. Although is there an actual market for mint Montego's?

What is curiously delightful is that this particular Montego seems to be the subject of a small eNay bidding war. It started at just £100...

It's funny, for £35k you could have your pick of the current crop of Astons - early V8 vantage, DB9, hell even a DB7 Volante AND a used Toyota iQ.....

If you're missing the 'luxury' of the Cygnet just re-trim the interior with cow hide and put an Aston keyring on the Toyota key.

And significantly higher running costs.
