Don't know what folk think of this one or whether I'm being unreasonable here.

991 (2) Targa 4S, lovely blue, manual gearbox, all the right extras.

but £20k over what Autotrader suggest for a private sale!

Twenty thousand pounds. What gives? Am I being crazy to think it should be a bit better priced?

The advert is proper cringe, the voiceover all that BS, really takes himself way too seriously.

I'd want at least £20k off for having to listen to that bks in the video.

Ha I hadn’t even listened to the video until these comments - my word...

Because of the relative rarity of a manual 991.2 Targa with some reasonably decent extras I can get wanting a little more than the recommended price, it’s not a bog standard Carrera 2 (not that’s a bad thing!) and if you’re looking for a manual Targa then prepare to pay a little premium for the rarity perhaps.

I’m just still not sure about paying at least 10-15k over the odds.

I see a lot of this though with private sales. Autotrader recommends a price for private sale and one for dealers.

Private sale is listed at the exact figure for the top end of the suggested dealer price. “NO OFFERS” in the ad. Months go by without a sale, I’ve seen a S Class convertible sit around for ages on the same basis.

£50k for a Tesla which doesn't work, is in Germany, needs £15k for a new battery, and needs transporting back to the UK, at the buyer's expense.

I think the Tesla roadster will be hugely collectible, they will only go up in value as electric demand increases and not everyone wants a huge SUV type thing. Its unlikely anyone will build a two seater electric roadster for a good while and the brand is iconic.

Sourcing a battery or a suitable equivalent shouldn’t be that hard, if Specialists are busy converting all manner of classics to electric, this can be easily fixed.

IMHO definitely not underpriced, even noting it needs £15k of effort but then a lot of early Zoe’s and Leafs will begin a similar place soon won’t they? No different to a super car needing an engine out clutch change really

I don’t disagree that I can see the Tesla roadster being a collectible with appreciating value to match. However, I can certainly see a two seat electric car coming to market albeit it won’t have the collectibility of what will be deemed the iconic first of its kind.

What would always put me off these sort of sales is the failure to just rectify the fault before sale. Never do I trust the, “it just needs” line; if it’s that simple then do it and then sell it. Yes, some folks simply don’t have the cash to complete a repair but that would worry me it had been run on a shoestring previously and in this case the number plate and location of the car etc suggest to me the owner isn’t short of a Bob or two, so why not fix it and then sell it? Can of worms to me.

Totally agree. If it's priced high but needs a third of the asking price spent for more work, all you're going to get is people trying to drive your price down to mitigate against that spend.

If you spend the money yourself to get it running, then surely you can then charge strong prices with some confidence?

Auto as well. Isn't the mk3 regarded as the worst one, flabby and underwhelming?

Seems a tad optimistic- even for an old Ford.

Shabby W126 which looks "lived in" inside, has patchy alloys, wrong indicators, 170,000 on the clock and is at least 300% overpriced.

2,000 rpm idle with a warm engine and ABS warning light on the dash....

No mention of service history, pitiful sales description

Yeah, but just LOOK at it! It's LOVELY....

Bit biased but I was about 4 when my Dad turned up at home with his 'New car'...It was one of these in 380 spec. Lovely thing. Velour seats an all.

Especially a left hooker with a badly painted bonnet and a front grill that looks like it’s been refitted with a hammer

I know naff all about Porsche buying/selling but the Targas seem to pull really strong money.

There was a 2014 car sold for £70k on Collecting Cars a few months back.

£25k for an 18 year old SLK200 that hasn't had an MOT in nearly 4 years.

Advert for the SLK has been pulled from Autotrader, but still up on the dealer website.

I wonder if you could use the price promise to knock at least £15k off the price, an SLK320 with similar miles for £9995.

That price promise is so meaningless - you can find the "same" car for sale elsewhere! You could find one very similar but no doubt the garage would just say "sorry sir, that other one has slightly different wheel nuts and therefore is not the same". rolleyes

Oh st... I like this. Do I need to see someone?!

Peel of the barbwire stickers (although probably a bit of a red light in relation to its previous owner's mindset) and we could be in business.
