Seriously Overpriced Cars
Discussion
There are some real rich pickings amongst the American car section of eBay these days. Hot on the heels of the £140,000 F150 pickup from Clive sutton is this...

I agree. The American car market has gone crazy and Mustang prices are unreal. I sold my 69 Mach 1 this summer as I thought I'd sell while prices were high.
Here's a load of parts for lots of money. And it's not a rare car as the ad states.

Your '69 is the car I'd have above anything else. Takes me back to when I saw my first brand new Mach 1 in a garage in Cornwall on holiday. I was 9 years old. Dad said he was going to buy it; I didn't realise he was joking and I was devastated when we drove all the way home in our Vauxhall Victor. Here's a load of parts for lots of money. I've given up looking at '69's now. I refuse to pay the prices being asked. They're rarely sold by enthusiasts, just dealers out to make a quick killing. I'm lucky enough to have had a few Mustangs/Camaros/Corvettes, so I've scratched the itch. But if one came up at a sensible price I'd buy it. And keep it.

Prices will come down again. Nothing stays the same for ever. I'm sure you'll be behind the wheel of a 69 some day.I've given up looking at '69's now. I refuse to pay the prices being asked. Failed it's MOT in January:

Oof. Classic E46 M3. "Nearside Rear Vehicle structure is fractured and structural rigidity is significantly reduced sub frame mount (6.1.1 (a) (i))"
I don't get why some owners say their car only goes out in the dry, but when there's been 9 owners before, they probably haven't been quite so fastidious in not smoking, eating, or driving it in the wet.

Also consider the effect on value should a previous owner’s reputation be called into question...
Which has been found to be completely false, IIRC.Presumption of innocence (which we no longer have) is a vital part of any free society.
What I was pointing out was that any increase in value due to a previous owner’s status is dependent on their continuing good reputation.
Values may go down as well as up.
Unless it’s Hitler, I bet his old limo is worth a few bob.

Not a huge spec, god awful looking head unit, and that horrible Mercedes tractor engine. MOT is clean and I bet someone will probably unknowingly overpay for it, but I certainly wouldn't Pommy said:
There's a significant white background tax, but as more and more MK1's rot away, rust-free examples are appreciating in value.Car_Nut said:

Reads like a joke but I don’t think it is.
I used to have one of these. There really is nothing remarkable about them or anything "classic" about them to warrant any additional value over the book price. A boggo 90s hatchback like this is not worth £3k of anyone's money. That same money can get any number of newer cars which are better in every single way.
There is a vintage "craze" at the moment. I know this car isn't "vintage" but your point about its value in 5 and 10 years' time proves my point, that people seem to be happy to pay well over the odds for some old [insert hobby/interest/market here] crap just because it's old.
It's the same with hifi - ancient low end 1980s amplifier with spring clip speaker terminals that you can easily lift with one hand? £150 please. Vintage init mate.
And things like old furniture on facebook - £100 for an ugly old 1960s side table. Behave, that's fire wood.
1999 Renault Megane for £3k? Come off it.
Does a 14 year old Jaguar with 60k miles qualify as seriously overpriced at £29,950?
